Finn Wolfhard And Julianne Moore Set To Star In Jesse Eisenberg’s Directorial Debut

Damn. It seems like every actor wants to be a director now. We just reported on Dave Franco’s directorial debut, and now we’re talking about Jesse Eisenberg’s directorial debut.

The indie flick titled When You Finish Saving The World is being written by Eisenberg as well. He’s also writing an Audible Original of the same name, although the stories will diverge somewhat. The audio series will be slightly different.

Set over three decades, the six-part series follows three members of a family — Nathan, a father learning to connect with his newborn son; Rachel, a young college student seeking her place in life; and Ziggy, a teenager hoping to figure out where he came from, and where he’s headed.

Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard have reportedly agreed to star in the film. Most directors don’t get to ~direct~ Oscar winners like Moore in their first movie, but Eisenberg isn’t your typical director.

He’s been acting for years. He’s also an author and playwright. He’s known in Hollywood for being one of the more intelligent actors in the game, so this move into directing should come as no surprise.

Emma Stone and her fiancé Dave McCary (Brigsby Bear) will produce the film with Moore, and CAA Media Finance will arrange the financing and handle worldwide sales

No word on a production schedule at this time, but you have to imagine it won’t start filming until next year.

Check Out The First Images Of Alison Brie And Dan Stevens In Dave Franco’s Directorial Debut ‘The Rental’

It looks like Dave Franco is trying to follow in the footsteps of John Krasinski. As you all know, Krasinski directed/co-wrote the horror-thriller A Quiet Place back in 2018. The movie starred his wife Emily Blunt.

Franco is attempting to do something very similar. He will be making his directorial debut with the thriller film ‘The Rental‘ starring his wife, Alison Brie.

In the film, Brie co-stars alongside Dan Stevens as a couple who set out on a double date vacation with two of their friends.

But things take a turn for the unsettling when secrets start to come out and it starts to feel like the four friends might not be alone.

Franco co-wrote the script for this film with Joe Swanberg, the creator of the Netflix series, Easy, which Franco acted in.

IFC Films purchased the rights to the film this week and for right now, they plan to release it on July 24, 2020.

Franco released the following statement:

I’ve admired the IFC brand and their films for as long as I can remember. I couldn’t be more excited about partnering with them for my directorial debut. They have such a strong track record when it comes to elevated genre films, which makes them the perfect home for THE RENTAL.

Jake Gyllenhaal Says Heath Ledger Refused To Present At 2007 Oscars Because Of ‘Brokeback Mountain’ Joke

Heath Ledger left this world too early. He died back in 2008, and it was a shock to everyone. Not only was he incredibly talented as an actor, but by all accounts, he was a pretty genuine dude as well.

During a recent interview, Jake Gyllenhaal talked a little about Ledger. As most of you probably know, Gyllenhaal co-starred with Ledger in the award-winning ‘Brokeback Mountain’ film.

The movie was nominated for eight Oscars, and won three of them including, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score. But somehow, it lost Best Picture to Crash.

That’s not why Heath Ledger refused to present the following year though. He didn’t care that they lost. He didn’t like the fact that the Oscars were trying to make jokes about the film.

Gyllenhaal explained:

I mean, I remember they wanted to do an opening for the Academy Awards that year that was sort of joking about it. I’m always like, ‘It’s all in good fun.’ And Heath said, ‘It’s not a joke to me – I don’t want to make any jokes about it.’

That’s the thing I loved about Heath. He would never joke. Someone wanted to make a joke about the story or whatever, he was like, ‘No. This is about love. Like, that’s it, man. Like, no.’

And you have to respect him for that. It’s 2020 now and gay films and tv shows are all over the place, but back then? They weren’t nearly as popular, and a lot of people were making sophomoric jokes about the movie.

Ledger wanted to honor the story. A true love story, and he rightly believed that it wasn’t okay to joke about it just because it happened to feature two dudes in love instead of a straight couple.

Dennis Quaid Facing Some Heat After Saying Donald Trump Is Handling This Pandemic Well

Dennis Quaid has always been a bit conservative, so we’re not exactly sure why people are surprised by his recent comments on Donald Trump.

The 65-year-old actor (who is engaged to.a 26-year-old) talked to The Daily Beast recently, and during the interview, he talked about how Trump is handling this coronavirus pandemic.

I think Trump, no matter what anybody thinks of him, is doing a good job at trying to get these states — and all of the American people — what they need, and also trying to hold our economy together and be prepared for when this is all over. I don’t want to get into petty arguments about it.

But of course, the internet is all about petty arguments. He has been getting dragged online, especially on Twitter.

I mean, he had to know this was coming. He probably did it to get more attention on his podcast. Now he’ll have all the Trump supporters on his side, listening to his podcast and funding his wedding. If he hadn’t mentioned Trump, no one would have even known about his podcast.

By the way, Trump *might* (BIG MIGHT) be handling the pandemic better right now, but it’s a little too late. He fumbled the ball early on and tried to downplay the virus. He keeps touting his China travel ban, but there were so many other things he could have been doing.

Instead, he spent his time going on Fox News to tell everyone that the virus would be gone completely in a week or so. He ignored the experts until they became impossible to ignore. I don’t think we should congratulate him for that.

Watch The First Trailer For ‘Extraction’ Starring Chris Hemsworth

A week or two ago, we shared a poster for the upcoming action-thriller ‘Extraction‘ starring Chris Hemsworth.

Now, we’re happy to share the first trailer. Hemsworth stars in the film as Tyler Rake, “a weathered mercenary whose combat skills are solicited when he’s sent to Bangladesh to rescue an international crime lord’s kidnapped son.”

The film was directed by Sam Hargrave, the stunt coordinator for Avengers: Endgame and Atomic Blonde.

David Harbour and Golshifteh Farahani co-star in the movie, which is set to be released on Netflix April 24, 2020.

Should be a good way to waste an hour or two of this quarantine life.

Check out the trailer below…

Director Jon M. Chu Promises That ‘In The Heights’ Will Be In A Theater Near You, NO MATTER WHAT!

This coronavirus pandemic has placed the movie world on an indefinite hold. Several big films have seen their release date pushed back months, and even a full year in some cases.

And some movies, have been pushed off the schedule completely. Some smaller films will never get their time in a theater, but director Jon M. Chu promises ‘In the Heights‘ will not be one of those movies.

The film, which is based on the hit musical written by some guy named Lin-Manuel Miranda, was set to be released June 25th, but Warner Bros. has delayed the release indefinitely.

During an interview with Variety, Chu admits that the word “indefinitely” is a bit vague, but he promises that the film will open in theaters at some point.

We’re gonna have a date. It’s just about if we choose a date now, we’d probably have to shift it later. So, we’re not going to commit to one now.

What we are committed to is, it’s going to be in a theater. It has to be in a theater. It demands to be in a theater. This community lived a life that deserves to be on the big screen and celebrated in the biggest magical way, [and] we’re going to deliver that.

So if you’re worried that In the Heights will get pushed to some streaming service, don’t worry! CHU IS FIGHTING FOR YOU!

The Jordan Peele Produced ‘Candyman’ Has Its Release Date Pushed Back A Few Months

Most people have been referring to this upcoming ‘Candyman‘ reboot as “Jordan Peele’s Candyman” but it is not Peele’s film, at least not entirely.

Yes, he did help write the script and he produced the movie, but he’s not the director. This reboot is actually being directed by Nia DaCosta, the writer/director behind the 2018 indie flick, Little Woods.

People were pretty hyped for Candyman, especially after the highly entertaining trailer was released earlier this year.

Sadly, people are going to have to wait a few extra months to see it. The horror remake was set to be released June 12, but thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, it’s being pushed back until September 25.

And like we have been mentioning, this reshuffling of release dates for the major films is going to cause some mayhem with the distribution schedule for studios. Smaller films might get pushed off the schedule completely.

Universal was set to release a musical drama centered around the world of youth choirs titled ‘Praise This’ on September 25, but now it has been removed from the schedule. No new release date has been announced.

Timothee Chalamet And Armie Hammer Officially On Board For ‘Call Me by Your Name’ Sequel

Back in 2017, a little film titled ‘Call Me by Your Name‘ took the world by storm. It was praised by critics, loved by the general audience, and went on to win several awards.

The coming-of-age gay romance drama is of course based on the novel of the same name, and that novel does indeed have a sequel titled Find Me, which features the same characters 10 years later.

Director Luca Guadagnino recently revealed in an interview that both Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer are ready to go for a sequel.

Of course, it was a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Esther Garrel and the other actors. Everyone will be in the new movie,

Unfortunately, much like with everything else, production on the film has been delayed. Guadagnino said before this pandemic, he was set to meet with a screenwriter in the states about the sequel.

Before coronavirus, I made a trip to the United States to meet a screenwriter I love very much, whose name I don’t want to say, to talk about the second part. Unfortunately, we had to put it on hold.

Amazon Prime Steps Up, Will Hold An Online Festival For SXSW Filmmakers

One of the first event casualties of the coronavirus was SXSW. The festival was forced to cancel just a week before it was scheduled to begin back in early March.

Obviously everyone was disappointed, especially since plane tickets had been purchased, hotels were booked, etc.

The cancellation really hurt indie filmmakers, who were set to premiere their films at the festival. SXSW is a great platform to share their work and ceate some positive word of mouth.

Now they were left with nothing, but thankfully Amazon Prime is stepping in.

The tech company is inviting filmmakers to take part in this online film festival, which will play exclusively on Prime Video in the U.S. The event will be available in front of the Prime Video paywall and free to all audiences around the country, with or without an Amazon Prime membership.

Filmmakers who do participate will get paid. Amazon didn’t reveal how much they will make, but said they’ll receive a screening fee for streaming their film over the 10-day period.

The screenings are expected to begin in late April. SXSW officials have already started reaching out to the filmmakers to let them know about Amazon’s offer.

Once more information is released and potentially a lineup of the films, we’ll provide an update.

Another One Bites The Dust, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Has Its Release Date Pushed Back

You’ve waited over 30 years for a ‘Top Gun’ sequel, so what’s another few months?

It was announced this week that ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ will be pulling out of its June 24th release date. Instead, it will now be released on December 23, 2020.

As part of the release shake-up, Paramount has also moved ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ — which the studio postponed last month — to Sept. 4, 2020

Several other films have pushed back their release date to the fall/winter, which is going to cause a traffic jam at the theaters. I mean, how are we going to watch all these films? And who is going to have the money?

I feel like a lot of these studios are being optimistic. I mean, what if a second wave comes in the winter and they have to shut down temporarily again? It’s a very confusing moment right now for everyone.

I do miss the movies. I know that much. It was basically the only thing I did before all this. But at the same time, I’m not going to risk getting coronavirus just so I can see Tom Cruise pretend to fly a plane.

But hopefully we won’t have to make that decision. Hopefully the world is in a much better place come December.
