‘Doctor Strange 2’ Is Hoping To Make Over $170 Million During Its Opening Weekend

Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow with the upcoming film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The comic book film, spotlighting Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, is set to hit theaters this weekend, and experts say it could bring in between $160 and $180 million.

Some box office experts believe that excitement for all things Marvel could propel the film’s three-day tally closer to $200 million. That’s a benchmark only a handful of films have reached in a single weekend.

It’ll be premiering in over 4,000 theaters in North America. Overseas, experts say it’s expected to make around $130 million, which means it could open to a worldwide total over $300 million, which would certainly be impressive.

It’s something Disney is counting on, considering the budget for this film was $200 million, not including marketing costs. The first ‘Doctor Strange’ film made a total of $677 million at the worldwide box office. It’s likely this sequel beats that total.

If the projections hold, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will deliver the biggest opening weekend of 2022. As of now, the biggest opening of 2022 belongs to ‘The Batman‘ which brought in $134 million.

Watch The First Trailer For ‘Easter Sunday’ Starring Jo Koy And Tiffany Haddish

Universal and Dreamworks just dropped the first trailer for Jo Koy’s ‘Easter Sunday‘ film, which is set around a family gathering to celebrate Easter Sunday.

This marks the comedian’s first feature film role and is supposed to be a love letter to the Filipino community. It’s the first studio film to star an all-Filipino main cast. Jimmy O. Yang, Tia Carrere, Brandon Wardell, Rodney To, Eugene Cordero, Jay Chandrasekhar and Tiffany Haddish will be joining Koy.

The trailer shows how Koy draws from both personal experience and his standup comedy routine, as it features Koy’s on-screen mother commenting on how he should have been a lawyer. Another family moment reveals how they all have the same ATM pin number in honor of Filipino-American boxer Manny Pacquiao’s birthday. Haddish plays a cop who tells Koy, ‘Me and your dad used to be real intimate back in the day.’

The flick was directed by Chandrasekhar based on a script written by Ken Cheng. Universal Pictures holds U.S. distribution rights.

It’s set to open August 5, 2022. Check out the trailer below…

Watch Daniel Radcliffe In First Teaser Trailer For Weird Al Yankovic Biopic

The biopic genre is about to get real weird with the upcoming film, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

The movie was filmed last year in Los Angeles. News broke when people noticed Daniel Radcliffe walking around town sporting a frizzy-haired wig and a pretty epic mustache. The ‘Harry Potter‘ actor stars in this movie as “Weird Al” Yankovic.

Roku released the first teaser trailer for the film this week, and yes, it features an accordion.

The movie is billed as a ‘untold true story’ of Yankovic, documenting ‘Weird Al’s’ rise to fame with early hits like ‘Eat It’ and ‘Like a Surgeon’ — as well as his ‘torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.’ It’s really more of a scripted mockumentary, spoofing tropes that run rampant in self-important biopics.

Of course a Weird Al biopic would be a parody of the genre itself. Would he really have it any other way?

In addition to Radcliffe, this flick stars Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, Julianne Nicholson and Toby Huss.

It’ll stream on the Roku Channel this fall, but no specific release date has been set as of yet. We’ll keep you posted.

Bella Thorne Set To Star In Upcoming Thriller Film ‘Saint Clare’ From ‘American Psycho’ Writer

Bella Thorne is stepping away from the adult film industry to star in the upcoming thriller film, Saint Clare. The movie, which was co-written by ‘American Psycho‘ writer Guinevere Turner, stars Thorne as a quiet catholic college student with a divine vocation for killing.

The story is actually based on the novel Clare at Sixteen by Don Roff. There’s actually a sequel book coming out in 2023, so the first book was obviously a pretty big success. It was released back in March of 2021.

Mitzi Perione is set to direct this project. She previously directed the psychological thriller ‘Dying to Play’ in 2018. That was her feature directorial debut, so this will be just her second feature.

Producers are in negotiations with Rebecca DeMornay (Jessica Jones) to join the cast, with additional casting of other key roles underway. Production is scheduled to begin soon in Kentucky.

Screen Media has already picked up worldwide rights to the project and will launch international sales at this month’s Cannes market. Screen Media will handle distribution in the U.S.

It’s likely this film gets a 2023 release date, and if it’s a success, you can bet they’ll make a sequel the following year.

Meg Ryan Set To Direct And Star In Romantic Comedy ‘What Happens Later’

Meg Ryan is going back to her romantic comedy beginnings. The 60-year-old actress is set to direct and star alongside David Duchovny in a rom-com titled What Happens Later.

The film is reportedly based on the play ‘Shooting Star’ by playwright Steven Dietz, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan and novelist Kirk Lynn.

The movie follows ex-lovers Willa (Ryan) and Bill (Duchovny) who are reunited for the first time since their split decades prior when they both find themselves snowed in, in-transit, at an airport overnight. Willa is still the wilful, independent spirit she once was, free of any ties, while the recently separated Bill is reassessing his life and his relationships with his estranged wife and daughter. All each of them wants is to get home but over the course of the night they find themselves at first reluctantly drawn together yet compelled to revisit their past, along with what could have been and what might well be again.

So it sounds like it’ll be in mostly one location, which makes sense considering this was originally a play.

This will be the second directorial credit for Ryan. She previously directed the 2015 film ‘Ithaca’ which did not perform well with critics. But hey, it was her first time directing.

Bleecker Street has already purchased U.S. rights and plans on releasing this project inside theaters. Production is set to begin in Arkansas later this year.

A release date will likely come in 2023.

‘Jackass Forever’ Success Leads To Paramount Developing New Series

Jackass Forever‘ was a pretty solid success at the box office. The movie made over $80 million, which is an outstanding total, thanks in large part to a low budget of $10 million.

Not only did the film make lots of cash, it also received rave reviews from critics and the general audience. Heck, I loved it. There were so many outrageously hilarious moments. It felt like the early 2000s again.

And now, thanks to the success of the film, Paramount is putting together a new ‘Jackass’ series.

Based off the success of Jackass Forever, we are working with the creators to continue the partnership with a new series bringing even more ridiculous antics straight to Paramount+,

No details were provided. We don’t know if this would be a multiple episode type thing, or just a few special episodes… or even just a collection of shorts? We don’t know.

But it’s a huge win for the cast and crew of Jackass. Outside of Knoxville, those people kinda depend on the franchise to pay their bills, so the fact that Paramount might be hooking them up with consistent work is a good thing.

We’ll keep you posted as more information is released.

Watch Harry Styles And Florence Pugh In First Trailer For ‘Don’t Worry Darling’

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever, but we’re happy to report the wait is now over, Warner Bros. has finally released the first trailer for Olivia Wilde’s new psychological thriller, Don’t Worry Darling.

The trailer, which was first debuted at CinemaCon last week, has now been shared online. The thriller stars Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, and Nick Kroll.

Alice (Pugh) and Jack (Styles) are lucky to be living in Victory, the experimental company town housing the men who work for the top-secret Victory Project and their families. Life is perfect, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is unquestioning commitment to the Victory cause. But when cracks in their idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something much more sinister lurking beneath the attractive façade, Alice can’t help questioning what they’re doing in Victory, and why.

Wilde has admitted she was inspired by other psychosexual thrillers like Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal.

This is Wilde’s second directorial project after she released the coming-of-age comedy film Booksmart back in 2019 to rave reviews.

Don’t Worry Darling is set to hit theaters on September 23, 2022, and it should be a pretty intense ride. One filled with lots of twists and lust.

Bill Murray Talks About Inappropriate Behavior Complaint Against Him, Says He’s Learning

We told you last month that production on Aziz Ansari’s upcoming film, ‘Being Mortal‘, was stopped due to an inappropriate behavior complaint filed against Bill Murray.

The studio investigated the complaint and apparently found it to be credible enough to stop production. Sources say they had filmed around 50% of the project.

And for the first time, Murray is speaking out about the charge. During an interview on CNBC of all places, the 71-year-old actor revealed he had a “difference of opinion” with a woman he was working with on set.

I did something I thought was funny and it wasn’t taken that way. The movie studio wanted to do the right thing, so they wanted to check it all out and investigate it and so they stopped the production. As of now we’re talking and we’re trying to make peace with each other.

We’re not exactly sure who this woman is, but Murray claims he’s been in contact with her directly. If one were to speculate, Keke Palmer is the only actress listed on the movie’s IMDb page, so it’s possible she was the one who filed the complaint. We could certainly see her not wanting to take any of Bill’s sh*t.

Murray says they’re both professionals who want to finish the project, but need to trust each other in order to make it work.

We’re both professionals. We like each other’s work — we like each other, I think. If we can’t get along and trust each other, there’s no point in going further working together or making a movie… It’s been quite an education for me. I’ve been doing not much else but thinking about her for the last week or two.

Sucks for Ansari, as this was supposed to be his feature film directorial debut. In addition to Murray and Palmer, this film also stars Seth Rogen and Jimmy Walker Jr.

Russell Crowe And Liam Hemsworth Teaming Up For Action-Thriller ‘Land of Bad’

No one creates tension quite like Russell Crowe. The dude looks like he eats, sleeps and breathes stress. He always looks like he’s about to explode.

And it looks like you’ll be able to watch that ball of stress in the upcoming action-thriller, Land of Bad, alongside Liam Hemsworth.

Crowe will play Reaper, an Air Force drone pilot supporting a Delta Force special ops mission in the Philippines.

After the mission goes terribly wrong, he has 48 hours to remedy what has devolved into a wild rescue operation. Hemsworth will play the green air controller who is thrust into the middle of a high-stakes extraction which involves no weapons and no communication other than the drone above.

The movie is entering the Cannes market. Highland Film Group will be handling sales. The action flick was co-written/directed by Will Eubank, who previously directed Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin.

And don’t you worry, Crowe is already working on his next film. He just entered post-production on his second directorial film, Poker Face. It’s described as a crime-thriller, and get this, Hemsworth also stars in that movie, so apparently they connected on the ‘Land of Bad’ set.

A friendship has blossomed!

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Is Getting Rave Reviews After CinemaCon Premiere

The world has been waiting on this ‘Top Gun’ sequel for three years now. ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was originally supposed to be released in July 2019, but was pushed back to 2020 due to the production team needing more time to “work out” all the complex fight sequences.

And then COVID-19 happened, so the film was pushed back a few more times. Now finally, on May 27, 2022, the movie will be released inside a theater near you.

And apparently, you will not want to miss it. Paramount held the film’s first screening this past week at CinemaCon, and the reviews are pretty damn positive. Some have called it “the perfect blockbuster” which is exactly what theater owners are hoping for.

Check out this stellar reaction from Rotten Tomatoes’ Erik Davis…

A lot of hard work went into this movie. In order to shoot scenes inside the cockpits (to get some pretty awesome action shots) director Joseph Kosinski had to teach the actors how to use the camera equipment.

Cruise was nice enough to help Kosinski out, telling reporters…

We had to teach the actors about lighting, about cinematography, about editing. I had to teach them how to turn the cameras on and off, and about camera angles and lenses. We didn’t have unlimited time in these jets. If they were going up for 20-30 minutes, I had to make sure that we got what we needed.

Safe to say, Top Gun: Maverick is going to be a wild ride. SEE IT IN THEATERS!
