Netflix just dropped the first trailer for the comedic psychological thriller ‘Spiderhead’ starring Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett.
The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski, who is set to have a pretty hot summer with the upcoming release of his other film, Top Gun: Maverick.
Spiderhead stars Hemsworth as the visionary owner of a state-of-the-art penitentiary.
Where inmates wear a surgically attached device that administers dosages of mind-altering drugs, in exchange for commuted sentences. There are no bars, no cells or orange jumpsuits. In Spiderhead, incarcerated volunteers are free to be themselves. Until they’re not. At times, they’re a better version. Need to lighten up? There’s a drug for that. At a loss for words? There’s a drug for that, too.
Gotta be honest, I’m confused already, but we’re sure the movie will do a better job of explaining everything.
‘Deadpool’ writers Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese wrote the script based on George Saunders’ New Yorker short story, Escape from Spiderhead.
Spiderhead is set to premiere on Netflix on June 17. Check out the trailer below…
Bella Thorne is stepping away from the adult film industry to star in the upcoming thriller film, Saint Clare. The movie, which was co-written by ‘American Psycho‘ writer Guinevere Turner, stars Thorne as a quiet catholic college student with a divine vocation for killing.
The story is actually based on the novel Clare at Sixteen by Don Roff. There’s actually a sequel book coming out in 2023, so the first book was obviously a pretty big success. It was released back in March of 2021.
Mitzi Perione is set to direct this project. She previously directed the psychological thriller ‘Dying to Play’ in 2018. That was her feature directorial debut, so this will be just her second feature.
Producers are in negotiations with Rebecca DeMornay (Jessica Jones) to join the cast, with additional casting of other key roles underway. Production is scheduled to begin soon in Kentucky.
Screen Media has already picked up worldwide rights to the project and will launch international sales at this month’s Cannes market. Screen Media will handle distribution in the U.S.
It’s likely this film gets a 2023 release date, and if it’s a success, you can bet they’ll make a sequel the following year.
Kaley Cuoco got her start in the television world. She appeared on the sitcom ‘8 Simple Rules’ in the early 2000s, and then landed on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ for a ridiculous 12 seasons.
And while her heart is still in the TV world, Cuoco has been dipping her toes in the feature waters recently.
Her latest project? A high-concept thriller titled Role Play. According to Deadline, the 35-year-old actress is in talks to star/produce the film, which is being put together by Studiocanal.
The story follows a married couple whose life turns upside down after secrets are revealed about each other’s past. That’s pretty vague, but I suppose they don’t want to give away too much yet.
The screenplay, I hear, is said to have a franchise-able hook. Seth Owen also wrote the 2015 Ridley Scott produced sci-fi thriller Morgan starring Kate Mara and Anya Taylor-Joy. A search for a filmmaker is underway. Studiocanal will fully finance Role Play.
Insiders say production should begin in 2022 after Cuoco finishes filming season two of Flight Attendant.
No word on who will play her husband, but we’ll keep you posted. This sounds like it’ll be a different role for her, so we’re sure she’s excited about it. A nice break from the comedy world.
