Say What? Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Working On A Secret Disney Movie With ‘Zootopia’ Co-Director

alin

After leaving his Broadway hit Hamilton in July, Lin-Manuel Miranda has been trying to keep up with all the fame and praise. He’s one of the hottest names in Hollywood and everyone wants to work with him, especially a little studio called Disney.

He’s set to begin filming the sequel Mary Poppins Returns in London later this year. The sequel is currently scheduled for a 2018 release. In addition to the starring role, Miranda also wrote several songs for the upcoming animated feature Moana, so Disney is making sure we have plenty of Miranda in our lives.

In a recent interview with Vulture, the 36-year-old actor/composer revealed he’s working on his own animated feature with Zootopia’s co-director Byron Howard.

“That’s the fun thing about working with someone and having it go well — you go, ‘Okay, what else can we do?’ Lasseter took me aside and said, ‘I have an idea: Here’s Byron, and you guys should start talking.’ We literally haven’t gotten in the room yet, but we’re plotting.”

So yeah, it’s still in the early stages, but it’s something to get excited about. He wasn’t able to offer any details, but we’re sure we will be hearing more about it real soon.

By the way, Disney is on a ridiculous hot streak right now. Every single thing they put out turns to box office gold. Their latest film Moana will be released in just a little over a week, and if the early reviews from critics are correct, it’s going to perform extremely well.

The Full Trailer For Disney’s ‘Moana’ Has Been Released, And It Looks Beautiful! (VIDEO)

Dwayne Johnson made an appearance on Good Morning America on Thursday to premiere the absolutely stunning trailer for Moana. Before showing the trailer, Johnson talked about how much he loves the movie, and he’s not just saying that because he’s in it.

“I think it’s a really special movie. I saw it. I really loved it. A lot of times when you see a movie, you try not to get drunk on your own wine, but the movie’s really good.”

And you know, after watching the trailer, we believe he’s telling the truth. This movie does look really good. In the film, Johnson voices Maui, the legendary demi-god that we’ve heard so much about. Auli’i Cravalho is the voice behind the latest Disney princess Moana.

Get ready for more photos and videos coming soon. Johnson has promised his followers he’ll post new photos and clips from the movie every Monday until its Thanksgiving weekend release.

“From now until our Thanksgiving weekend release, myself, the cast and Disney will be serving up amazingly cool looks at the film, taking you deeper into how it was made, and what you can expect from our story and characters.”

“Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped — and no one today knows why.

[Moana is the] spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.”

What? Another movie starring Dwayne Johnson? YOU’RE KIDDING! At this point, it’s safe to assume Johnson has a role in every new movie released. The 44-year-old actor is probably the hottest actor in Hollywood, and it looks like he has found something special with Disney’s Moana.

The first trailer for the animated film featuring Disney’s first Polynesian princess has been released, and we can already tell it’s going to be a huge hit. This first trailer is primarily focused on demi-god Maui (voiced by Johnson) as he introduces himself and his adventures.

And while some people are a bit disappointed that this first trailer doesn’t feature more of newcomer Auli’i Cravalho’s voice, there is no reason to worry. There will be more trailers released before the film hits theaters November 23, 2016. We’re sure the next trailer will focus more on Disney’s latest princess.

Those tattoos you see all over Maui’s body? They are pretty important, as you’ll see in the trailer below. An interesting little note about them is that they were hand-drawn by the same Disney artist who drew the Genie from Aladdin.

Check out the official synopsis and the stunning trailer below…

Celebrate The Zoo Year By Watching The New Trailer For Disney’s ‘Zootopia’ (VIDEO)

Let me first apologize for the horrible “Zoo Year” joke in the title. Disney’s marketing team has been shoving the whole Zoo Year’s Eve thing down our throats. At some point you are just forced to swallow, you know?

Anyway, the second trailer for Zootopia has been released, and it features the original song ‘Try Everything’ co-written by Sia and performed by Shakira, which sounds like the perfect combination for a Disney movie. The film is described as a “3D computer-animated action buddy comedy noir adventure.”

Zootopia was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore and co-directed by Jared Bush. All three contributed to creating the story as well. Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin will voice the two main characters. Idris Elba will play a character named Chief Bogo, and J.K. Simmons will play Mayor Lionheart.

In addition to this film, Disney will also be releasing Moana next year, which will mark the first time in over 10 years that Walt Disney Animation Studios has released two feature films in the same year. The last time it happened was in 2002 with Treasure Planet and Lilo & Stitch.

You can check out the official synopsis and trailer below. Zootopia hits theaters March 4, 2016.

“The modern mammal metropolis of Zootopia is a city like no other. Comprised of habitat neighborhoods like ritzy Sahara Square and frigid Tundratown, it’s a melting pot where animals from every environment live together — a place where no matter what you are, from the biggest elephant to the smallest shrew, you can be anything. But when optimistic Officer Judy Hopps arrives, she discovers that being the first bunny on a police force of big, tough animals isn’t so easy. Determined to prove herself, she jumps at the opportunity to crack a case, even if it means partnering with a fast-talking, scam-artist fox, Nick Wilde, to solve the mystery.”

Dwayne Johnson’s Voice Will Play Major Role In Upcoming Disney Film

What’s that smell? Do you smell it? I believe it’s the smell of success. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is now one of the biggest movie stars around, which is pretty impressive for someone who started as wrestler.

Yeah, it’s mostly acting inside the ring, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to make the switch to films. Just take a look at John Cena’s movie career. Or don’t take a look. It’s probably best if you don’t.

But Johnson has successfully made the switch, and it now looks like he will bring his silky smooth voice to the world of animation. TheWrap was the first to report that Johnson was in talks to voice a Hawaiian demi-god named Maui in the upcoming Disney film, Moana.

The film won’t even be released until late in 2016, so we don’t know the details surrounding the project. However, we do know it’s a “CG-animated comedy-adventure from The Little Mermaid team of Ron Clements and John Musker.”

It will center around Moana Waialiki, a born navigator, who is on a quest to find a fabled island. During her journey, she receives help from her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui. The first concept art for the film can be seen at the top of the page.

As we mentioned above, TheWrap first reported the rumor, and now we have confirmation from the man himself. The Rock tweeted out this message to his followers.

Congratulations! We can’t wait to watch it.
