Robert De Niro Reportedly In Talks To Join Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Movie

It looks like Joaquin Phoenix might be in great company for his untitled Joker origin movie. For those who don’t know, Phoenix is set to star in the film, which is being directed by Todd Phillips, who is best known for his comedy work.

According to recent reports, Robert De Niro is in talks to join this project. He would be portraying a talk-show host who plays a big part in driving Phoenix’s character to go mad.

“According to insiders, the script has ties to De Niro’s film ‘King of Comedy,’ about a failing comedian who kidnaps a popular talk-show host to gain fame. In this case, the roles would be reversed, with De Niro playing the smug host.”

By the way, Jared Leto will still be playing the Joker character in the DC Universe. Sources say this is a completely separate project. Leto will return to star in Suicide Squad 2.

No word on when this origin Joker story will be released, but it’ll likely be late 2019 or early 2020. We will keep you posted.
