Not only has it been 11 years since the last Bridget Jones movie, but it’s also been several years since Renée Zellweger has hit the big screen. According to her IMDb page her last film was 2010’s My Own Love Song with Forest Whitaker.
But now it looks like the 46-year-old actress is ready to make a comeback. She has three movies currently in production, a thriller with Keanu Reeves, a drama with Jon Voight, and of course the third installment of the Bridget Jones movie series.
It’s something that many fans never thought would actually happen. The second Bridget Jones film was released back in 2004. This third film, Bridget Jones’s Baby, had been in development for years. It was going to happen, then it wasn’t going to happen, and that cycle just repeated over and over again.
Thankfully, everything finally came together and now they’re filming the movie…right now! Universal Pictures UK sent out a tweet on October 2 to announce filming had started. The first official photo from the movie was released two weeks ago on the Facebook page of the production company Working Title Films.
Exciting stuff, right? You bet. And no one is more excited than Zellweger. She spoke with E! News recently to talk about how filming has been going so far…
“I’m having a good time. It’s really a nice reunion with old friends. And it’s always wonderful to be back in London and I love this character so it’s been a real treat to get to revisit it again.”
Fans of the series will be happy to know Colin Firth has returned for the third movie. Hugh Grant will not be returning, but Patrick Dempsey has landed a mystery role in the movie.
Details on this third film are like Heidi Klum‘s sense of humor: they’re incredibly hard to find. According to PEOPLE, this upcoming movie will “fill the gap between Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Helen Fielding‘s 2013 book Mad About The Boy.”
