When Pixar puts out a new trailer, we pay attention. The studio produces hit after hit, and they’re hoping ‘Turning Red‘ will add to their collection.
Pixar’s latest flick follows an ordinary 13-year-old girl…well, that’s not entirely true. She’s “ordinary” until she gets stressed out or experiences anxiety of any kind. Then she’s anything but ordinary.
Why? Because she turns into a gigantic talking red panda.
Adding to the problem is Mei’s (Rosalie Chiang) overprotective mother, Ming (voiced by Sandra Oh), who’s seen in the trailer sneaking to watch over her at school, causing an altercation with a security guard that leads to one of Mei’s panda-sized incidents.
This film was directed by Domee Shi, and it marks her feature film debut as a director. She had previously worked as a storyboard artist for Pixar before jumping into the spotlight with her Oscar-winning short, Bao.
Turning Red is set to hit theaters March 11, 2022. It appears (at least right now) that it’ll be exclusively in theaters, as opposed to the Disney+ hybrid releases we’ve seen this year due to COVID-19.
