Stanley Tucci Talks About His Struggle With Cancer And Having To Use A Feeding Tube For Months

60-year-old actor Stanley Tucci is an incredible talent. He’s won three Emmy awards, two Golden Globes, and was even nominated for an Oscar. He made his film debut way back in 1985 and has been acting ever since.

His latest film, Supernova, was praised by critics. It was described as a “heartbreaking look at the emotional toll that comes with accepting mortality.”

And Tucci has personal experience with that. In a recent interview with Vera magazine, Tucci talked about his cancer diagnosis and treatments. He was first diagnosed three years ago with a tumor at the base of his tongue.

The mass was too big to operate on, so they had to treat it with high-dose radiation and chemo, which is something Tucci did not want to do after seeing how it impacted his first wife, who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I’d vowed I’d never do anything like that, because my first wife died of cancer, and to watch her go through those treatments for years was horrible.

He explained that the treatment/recovery was not only tough on him, but also his kids. He had a feeding tube for six months and could barely make it to their high school graduation.

The good news is that the treatment was successful and he’s feeling a bit better now, but he admits cancer has changed him.

[Cancer] makes you more afraid and less afraid at the same time. I feel much older than I did before I was sick. But you still want to get ahead and get things done.

Here’s to hoping it continues to stay away from him.
