This Men in Black Spin-Off Doesn’t Sound Cool Anymore, Will Smith And Tommy Lee Jones Are Not Expected To Return

When news of a Men in Black spin-off first hit the internet, it sounded super cool. It was supposed to be a Men in Black/21 Jump Street crossover starring Will Smith, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

But now it looks like that’s not going to happen. Sony has fast tracked a Men in Black spin-off, which will reportedly hit theaters May 19, 2019. This spin-off will not bring back Smith nor Tommy Lee Jones, and it will not be a crossover with 21 Jump Street, so basically it’s just going to be another crappy remake.

Independent UK explains Sony’s plans with this movie…

“The script, penned by Iron Man and Transformers: The Last Knight‘s Matt Holloway and Art Marcum, is set within the same universe as the previous films, but puts a contemporary spin on the franchise that captures things on a more global scale. Supposedly, Sony is hoping to do something similar to Jurassic World, which changed up the stakes while still acknowledging the history of previous films.”

We’ll see if it works for them. I love a good alien flick, but I feel like I would be more excited if it was a completely original idea, as opposed to taking ideas from an old franchise.

No word on casting for this spin-off, but we will keep you posted.
