Madea Ain’t Dead Yet! Tyler Perry Brings Character Out Of Retirement For New Netflix Film

We knew Tyler Perry couldn’t quit Madea. If you remember, Perry previously claimed Madea would be making her final appearance in the 2019 film, A Madea Family Funeral.

But it looks like that promise only lasted two years, ’cause it was just announced that Madea is coming back for a new Netflix flick titled, A Madea Homecoming.

The movie is expected to drop on the streaming service in 2022. Perry will direct and write the movie. No plot details have been released.

We’re assuming Netflix paid Perry a lot of money for this project, which is probably why Perry went back on his promise to retire the character. And really, who can blame him? The character has grossed over $1 billion at the box office.

It’s difficult to just say goodbye to that money, plus, Perry does a lot of good sh*t with his money, so at least it’s going to a good dude.

We’ll keep you posted on this project. If they’re shooting for a 2022 release, we have to imagine filming might start up this fall/winter.

Honestly. I’m excited for it. These movies are pure entertainment, and sometimes that’s all you need from a film.

Tyler Perry Is Saying Goodbye To His ‘Madea’ Character In 2019

If you would have told me ten years ago that Tyler Perry would be ending his ‘Madea’ character/films before the Fast & Furious franchise ends, I’d say you were crazy.

But it looks like Perry knows when to stop, unlike Vin Diesel & company. Perry debuted the character back in 1999, and since then, Madea has starred in dozens of films, plays and even had several television appearances. It’s safe to say, the Madea franchise has made Perry a very wealthy man.

Perry is ready to move on, though. During a recent interview on Bevy Smith’s SiriusXM show, the filmmaker announced he will be doing a farewell stage tour for the character, and 2019’s ‘Tyler Perry’s a Madea Family Funeral‘ will be the final movie.

“I’m happy to kill that old bitch, I’m tired, man. I just don’t want to be her age, playing her.”

He and his team actually finished shooting the film two years ago. They wanted to put the film behind the Halloween specials in 2016 and 2017.

“Spanning 10 installments, the Madea film franchise has garnered more than $500 million worldwide. Madea was first introduced in Perry’s 1999 play ‘I Can Do Bad All By Myself.’ He has said she was based on his own mother.”

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral is set to hit theaters March 1, 2019.
