‘Succession’ Star Brian Cox Set To Make His Feature Directorial Debut With Family Drama

At 75-years-old, actor Brian Cox will finally be making his feature directorial debut with the upcoming movie, Glenrothan, which is described as a love letter to his native Scotland.

Most of you probably know Cox from the glorious HBO series ‘Succession’ and it’s reported this film will take on some of the same themes from the show, mainly family drama.

Set against the backdrop of Glenrothan, a thriving distillery town in the Scottish Highlands, the film will tell the story of two estranged brothers reuniting in the land of their birth. The last time they spoke was on the day of their mother’s funeral when, following a violent exchange with their father, the younger of the two left their Highland home for America. Forty years later, the brothers finally reunite, back on Scottish soil and in the village that houses the family business — the Glenrothan Distillery.

The project is currently in development with Lionsgate and was created by Scottish actor/writer David Ashton. The script was co-written by Jeff Murphy.

Not exactly sure when production is expected to begin filming, but we’re assuming it’ll take place soonish, considering filming on the latest season of Succession has now wrapped. Cox’s schedule should be clear for now, and that’s important, because directing a feature is a full-time job. Oh, and he’s also reportedly starring in the film as well… so you know, no big deal.

We’ll keep you posted on this project as more information is released.

Brian Cox And Sinqua Walls Set To Star In Upcoming Drama Film ‘Mending the Line’

Succession’s Brian Cox has signed on to join Sinqua Walls in the upcoming drama flick, Mending the Line, this coming from a Deadline report.

The drama, which is being directed by Joshua Caldwell (Infamous), is set to begin production later this month in Montana.

The story follows a young soldier (Walls), injured in Afghanistan, who arrives at a VA hospital and meets a Vietnam veteran (Cox) at the facility who teaches him to fly fish, hoping it will help the young man deal with his physical and emotional trauma.

Stephen Camelio wrote the script. He has spent most of his time in the freelance writing world, publishing articles for ESPN, Entertainment Weekly and Men’s Journal.

The director, Caldwell, had this to say about the script…

With Mending the Line, Stephen has scripted a beautiful story about overcoming trauma and the healing power of fly fishing — a subject matter very close to my own heart. The film has a rich tapestry of emotion, and I’m excited to be working with Brian and Sinqua to bring these wonderful characters to life.

With filming getting started later this month, we have to imagine this film gets a release date in 2022.

We’ll keep you posted.
