When I heard about Mindy Kaling’s ‘Late Night‘ film being purchased for $13 million out of Sundance by Amazon Studios, I was super excited. I’m a fan of Kaling’s work and the idea of going after the white/male dominated world of late night TV was intriguing.
But the first trailer just dropped today, and it looks pretty basic. I mean, you can’t really judge a movie by its trailer..BUT THEN AGAIN YOU KINDA CAN!
You can at least get the tone, and the tone looks a little bland, which is surprising. I mean, I’m obviously still going to watch it and support Kaling (and John Early), but I’m not as excited anymore.
Check out the synopsis and trailer below. Late Night will hit theaters June 7, 2019.
A late-night talk show host’s world is turned upside down when she hires her first and only female staff writer. Originally intended to smooth over diversity concerns, her decision brings about unexpectedly hilarious consequences as the two women who are separated by culture and generation become united by their love of a biting punchline.
