The 2016 Golden Globes List Of Nominations, Which Films Are Up For Best Picture?

cree

We have officially entered awards season. While most of you are thinking about hot chocolate and Christmas gifts, we’re thinking about Golden Globes and shocking snubs.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association revealed its 2016 Golden Globe Awards nominees Thursday morning, and surprisingly there doesn’t appear to be any huge snubs, at least not on the film side of things. The biggest snub might be Johnny Depp and his film Black Mass not receiving any nominations. Most critics agree it was Depp’s best performance in years.

One nice surprise you will find in the list below is Sylvester Stallone’s name in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role category. We told you he deserved some awards for his performance in Creed, and it looks like he might get some. Sadly, that was the only nomination for the film.

The 2016 Golden Globes should be interesting for several reasons, but one of the main reasons is the return of Ricky Gervais. He will host the show for a third time on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016. You can always count on Ricky to bring some inappropriate jokes to the party.

Movie Review: Creed (2015) – The Best Rocky Film Yet

hero_Creed-2015

The day before Thanksgiving saw some great new releases, and coming out on top is the critically acclaimed Creed, based on the prior Rocky franchise. I’ll admit to being prejudiced, as I loved Rocky, but have to say, that this one pretty much beat out all the others, as far as I’m concerned.

Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) is the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky’s former rival and eventual friend. His father is dead but Adonis still wants to connect with him, so off he goes to Philadelphia, where we meet a contentedly retired Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) who is running his own Italian restaurant. Then, the champ comes out of retirement, this time to coach the hopeful newcomer into filling his deceased father’s shoes.

creed-movie-pic

Despite the fact that this movie comes 39 years after the release of the original, it still has a nostalgic feel that helps fans of the original identify with the film. It’s your standard movie, where the underdog makes good, but it still works. Classics are classics for a reason, after all.

Jordan plays the plucky newcomer quite well, and brings a level of depth to a character that was at risk of becoming cliché. The training montages, love interests and fight scenes don’t feel like clichés. They feel comfortable and enjoyable. While you can see the punches coming from miles away, it’s still a great, and enjoyable effort.

That’s because they also managed to make this contemporary. They didn’t just regurgitate the same old stuff, but instead created a new and exciting movie about a character we can genuinely care about. The movie isn’t dependent on nostalgia, and Creed is a standalone rather than a sequel, but I could see another franchise come out of this.

One thing I like about this movie is that it didn’t go with the inner-city cliché. In the beginning of this. Adonis is actually a white collar worker who believes there’s something more. He doesn’t go to Philadelphia because it’s his last resort. It’s an attempt to find some common ground with a father he never knew.

download 08DEC2015

It’s clear that the director has some affection for the Rocky franchise. He references the great, and the corniest moments of Rocky without being apologetic. He’s not filming this as some kind of tongue in cheek parody. Instead, it’s an homage to the original and a great work all its own.

Stallone is in his best part in decades, and kind of reminded me of Clint Eastwood in Million Dollar Baby. He has a kind of fragile air of mortality over a steely core that makes him seem incredibly authentic and believable. He really does shine in this movie.

This is absolutely worth the watch. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to see it, you’re missing out. You don’t need to have watched any of the prior Rocky movies, but it is helpful just to get an idea of the original Apollo Creed, who was easily one of the best characters in this series.

The First Trailer For Rocky Spin-Off ‘Creed’ Has Been Released, And It Looks Absolutely Incredible! (VIDEO)

Most of you should know I am not a big fan of sequels, but this latest ‘Rocky‘ movie starring Michael B. Jordan isn’t just a sequel. After watching the first trailer for Creed, it’s clear this movie is going to set up a brand new franchise.

A franchise where Jordan is the star. For those of you out there worried that Sylvester Stallone would try to take over this film, well, you should probably watch the trailer at the bottom of this page. There will be only one star in this movie, and as we mentioned above, it’s going to be Michael B. Jordan. The 28-year-old actor worked his butt off for this role.

He’s in the best shape of his life, “I’m working out a lot. I’m boxing, training. I’m putting on the weight. I’m working with Sylvester Stallone. We’re putting the time in now to get it right.” He told The Daily Beast back in October of last year. All of that hard work in the ring paid off, because it looks like he’s been doing this for years in the trailer.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters November 25, 2015. Many people believe the November release date is to avoid the Star Wars monster in December. However, maybe the people behind Creed feel like it has some Oscar potential? Jordan’s performance does look pretty impressive.

Check out the trailer below…

6 Talented Stars Who Were Fired From Big Movies

Have you ever been fired? Of course you have! But you shouldn’t be ashamed. It happens to everyone, even people who are actually good at their job.

Things happen, you know? Maybe your boss hates you. Maybe the company just can’t afford to keep you on. Maybe you accidentally started a small kitchen fire on your first day of work, and then tried to blame it on the owner’s dog…sorry this is getting personal now.

Let’s get to the celebrities…

ann5

6. Sylvester Stallone – “Beverly Hills Cop”

The Role: Axel Foley

Why He Was Fired: Stallone wanted the film to be filled with action. He has said that his version of the script “would have looked like the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan on the beaches of Normandy.” But Paramount didn’t like the changes because they were too expensive to produce. Two weeks before filming, Stallone left and was replaced with Eddie Murphy.

ann2

5. Megan Fox – “Transformers 3”

The Role: Mikaela Banes

Why She Was Fired: After starring in the first two ‘Transformers‘ films, everyone assumed Megan Fox would be back for the third movie in the franchise. But after comparing director Michael Bay to Hitler in an interview, she was fired and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was hired. Of course, Fox and Bay have worked things out since their public battle. Working together on the terrible Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remake.

gar

4. Judy Garland – “Valley of the Dolls”

The Role: Helen Lawson

Why She Was Fired: According to the reports, Judy was fired after she showed up on set drunk. She was fired and replaced with Academy Award-winning actress Susan Hayward. We should note there are several different stories on what really happened. Some people claim the production team hated Garland, some people say she was unhappy with the script, etc. Being drunk at work makes for a better story though.

ann

3. Anne Hathaway – “Knocked Up”

The Role: Alison Scott

Why She Was Fired: Okay, so technically she wasn’t fired, but the original plan was to give the lead female role to her. Reports say she and Judd Apatow disagreed on a particular scene in the movie. The actress claims she couldn’t accept the role “because it was going to show a vagina — not mine, but somebody else’s. And I didn’t believe that it was actually necessary to the story.” Katherine Heigl replaced her.

ann4

2. Stuart Townsend – “Lord of the Rings”

The Role: Aragorn

Why He Was Fired: Poor Townsend was training for his role in the movie for two months, and then was fired just one day before filming began. According to Townsend, he was fired because the director wanted someone older than him. He says he has no good feelings for the people in charge, “After that I was told they wouldn’t pay me because I was in breach of contract due to not having worked long enough. I had been having a rough time with them, so I was almost relieved to be leaving until they told me I wouldn’t be paid.” Viggo Mortensen ended up getting the part.

ann1

1. Ryan Gosling – “The Lovely Bones”

The Role: Jack Salmon

Why He Was Fired: It’s hard to believe someone fired Ryan Gosling, but Peter Jackson did it after Gosling decided he needed to gain 60 pounds to play the part of the grieving father. He claims he drank melted cartons of ice cream to gain the weight. “I really believed he should be 210 pounds.” Ryan said. But Jackson disagreed, which left Gosling, in his own words, “fat and unemployed.” Mark Wahlberg replaced him.

Sylvester Stallone Shares First Official Photo From Rocky Spinoff ‘Creed’

You can have your Furious 7, Avengers and Jurassic World. I’ll take Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan in the Rocky spinoff Creed.

Stallone shared the first official photo from set yesterday on his Instagram account. The photo of course shows the actor in his famous Rocky Balboa role, and next to him stands the grandson of Apollo Creed, Adonis Johnson Creed.

The film, which is scheduled to be released November 25, will hopefully launch a new series for the franchise. The plan is to pass the gloves to Michael B. Jordan and let him inspire the younger generation.

And from the full synopsis released a few months ago, it sounds like they are setting that up with this film.

“Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer.  Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo—the fierce rival who became his closest friend.  Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.”

You see that final sentence? Sounds like things could get a little emotional. I am really looking forward to this movie, so hopefully it doesn’t disappoint. I feel confident with Jordan moving in.

He’s a great actor. Let’s just hope he has a great script to work with.

10 Actors Who Were Badly Injured While Filming

bruc

People say actors don’t deserve all the money they receive. Millions of dollars just to appear on camera for a few weeks? It’s not fair!

But it’s not that simple. Yeah, we pay our athletes and entertainers too much money; however let’s not pretend like they have the easiest job in the world. Actors work extremely hard to produce quality entertainment, and sometimes their passion gets them in some serious trouble.

The 10 actors you see down below definitely earned their ridiculous paychecks.

sta8

No. 10 – Joseph Gordon-Levitt

While filming the 2012 thriller Premium Rush, Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a little accident while riding his bike around New York City. The actor told Celebuzz that a diplomat is to blame for the nasty cut on his arm, which required 31 stitches.

“A diplomat broke through our lock-up. You know, in New York City, you have the United Nations. There’s diplomats driving around, and they can break the law. So, he broke through our cones and went past the cops and double parked right where we were shooting. Basically, I ended up going through the rear window of a taxi cab.”

Joseph is a true actor, though. Instead of going down to the ground in pain, he asked the director of the film to shoot video of his injury, “I was stoked that they actually put it in (the movie).” He said.

sta2

No. 9 – Charlize Theron

Looking back at it now, Charlize Theron probably regrets agreeing to star in 2005’s massive flop, Aeon Flux. The film lost nearly $10 million after only taking in $52 million worldwide. Critics hated it, fans hated it and it was nominated for a few Razzies.

But we can’t blame the failure on Charlize Theron. She gave this movie her all, and ended up with a pretty serious neck injury. While performing a series of back handsprings, she slipped and landed on her neck. She was hospitalized for five days after suffering nerve damage, “It was numb on the right side of my body.” Theron told reporters. Production was shut down for two months while she recovered.

sta4

No. 8 – Channing Tatum

Channing Tatum’s gruesome injury wasn’t life-threatening; however we have to imagine it was probably one of the most painful injuries on this list. The 34-year-old actor was in Scotland filming a scene for the 2011 film The Eagle, and during the scene his character had to wade through freezing water in a wetsuit. Between takes, the crew would warm Tatum up by pouring a mix of boiling water and river water down his wetsuit.

After the last shot of the day, a crew member asked the actor if he wanted to warm up before he left the set for the day…

“I’m like, Nah, I’m good. And then I thought, Why not? Thing is, he’d forgotten to dilute the kettle water. So he poured scalding water down my suit. And I was trying to pull the suit away from my body to somehow get away from the boiling water, and the more I pulled the suit away, the lower the water went. It just went straight down and pretty much burned the skin off the head of my dick.”

Yeah. He suffered some serious burns to his penis. He was rushed to the hospital (which was an hour away) and they loaded him up with morphine once he arrived. Thankfully, everything healed up eventually, but Tatum claims it was the most painful thing he has ever experienced.

sta9

No. 7 – Jason Statham

Jason Statham’s co-stars say it was the actor’s professional diving experience that helped him get out of a scary situation while filming The Expendables 3. Statham was driving a three-ton truck when the brakes went out, which resulted in a 60-foot plunge into the Black Sea.

“Luckily we had taken the doors off before.”  Stallone told reporters. But he added that if anyone else was behind the wheel, they probably would have died…

“If anyone else had been in that truck we would have been dead because we were all wearing heavy boots and gun belts. We would have drowned. But because Jason is an Olympic-quality diver he got out of it.”

sta7

No. 6 – Bruce Willis

Most of the injuries you see on this list only caused temporary discomfort, but Bruce Willis suffered permanent damage while filming the first Die Hard. The director of the film, John McTiernan, had extra-loud blanks to make the film feel and sound as real as possible. It worked out great for the movie, but it ended up causing permanent hearing loss for poor Bruce.

“I suffer two-thirds partial hearing loss in my left ear and have a tendency to say, ‘Whaaa?'” He revealed during a Q&A session with The Guardian.

This may explain why he’s so freaking grumpy all the time.

sta3

No. 5 – Jaimie Alexander

During an interview with the New York Post, Jaimie Alexander explained just how bad the injury she suffered on the London set of Thor: Dark World really was.

“It was raining, it was dark outside, it was like 5 in the morning — and I went down a metal staircase and slipped and slipped a disc in my thoracic spine and chipped 11 of my vertebrae… I knocked my left shoulder out of place and tore my rhomboid on my right side . . . It took me out of filming for a month.”

Ouch.

sta1

No. 4 – Jackie Chan

Oh, Jackie Chan. He has injured himself several times while performing stunts for his movies, but his worst injury happened on the set of the 1986 film, Armour of God. During the filming of the opening sequence, Jackie was asked to jump from a castle wall to a tree branch. He successfully completed the jump on the first take, but he wasn’t pleased with the result, so he decided to perform the stunt again.

During his second attempt, the tree branch broke and Chan fell 25 feet to the ground. His head slammed against a rock on the ground, which cracked his skull and forced a piece of bone up into his brain. He was flown to the hospital and was in surgery for over eight hours. Decades later, he still has a hole in his head filled with a little plastic plug “to keep (his) brains in.”

sta5

No. 3 – Halle Berry

The extremely talented actress wasn’t even performing a stunt when she broke her arm on the set of Gothika. The accident took place right in the middle of the film’s nine-week shoot in Canada. Berry was filming a scene which required her to put up a fight against a doctor (Robert Downey Jr.) who was trying to pin her to a cot. She apparently got really into the scene because she resisted his grip with so much force that she broke her ulna.

“I knew that it was broken instantly and Robert knew it, too, because he heard the [ulna] snap.” The actress revealed. She impressed her co-stars by returning to the set just three weeks later.

No. 2 – George Clooney

The pain George Clooney suffered after his injury on the set of Syriana was so severe that it actually made him contemplate suicide. While filming an intense scene for the film, Clooney severely injured his spine. The constant pain from the accident was too much for the actor.

He told Rolling Stone the following…

“I was at a point where I thought, ‘I can’t exist like this. I can’t actually live.’ I was lying in a hospital bed with an IV in my arm, unable to move, having these headaches where it feels like you’re having a stroke, and for a short three-week period, I started to think, ‘I may have to do something drastic about this.'”

Thankfully, he eventually had successful surgery to fix the painful injury.

sta

No. 1 – Sylvester Stallone

Stallone wanted everything to be completely realistic while filming the original punching scenes between his character Rocky and Dolph Lundgren’s character Drago. Every punch landed was real, and at one point, Stallone asked Dolph to really try to knock him out. The incredibly strong punch to Stallone’s chest slammed his heart against his breastbone, which caused his heart to swell.

He went to the emergency room later in the day because he had trouble breathing. Once inside the hospital, Stallone realized just how serious the injury was. His blood pressure was over 200 and he was forced to stay in intensive care for nine days. If he hadn’t went to the hospital that night, doctors say his heart would have likely stopped.

Did Sylvester Stallone spoil the Ending to the to the Rocky sequel with a photo on his Twitter (Safe to read, no Spoilers).

creed

Well this is only a spoiler if you want it to be a spoiler.

With all the Sony hacking and email leaks everyone is worried about keeping things private. It’s really a problem when it’s an inside job….done possibly by accident?

Stallone himself took to his twitter account to celebrate the completion of the Rocky Spin-off entitled “Creed”. He posted a picture of what appears to be the last page of the script on his desk with the caption,

This is where the screenwriting is done.

screen writing

As you see it, it’s not a spoiler but if you blow it up and spin it 180 degrees you can learn some very interesting things regarding the final scenes of the film. The fact that this happened two days ago and the photo is still up, probably means that this isn’t really the actual ending. It might be the possibility of an ending.

Even if it was a mistake when websites write a story about it, it links right to the actual image posted to Stallone’s twitter account so he would have to know by now right?

GTY_michael_b_jordan_sk_140429_16x9_992

The film is scheduled to start filming in the next few weeks. Michael B Jordan will be playing Apollo Creed’s grandson who will be trained by none other than Sylvester Stallone who will be reprising his role as the one and only Rocky Balboa. The film is expected to be released in 2016.

If you want to no more….I’ve flipped and posted the photo for you below. All you have to do is click, enlarge and read. I dare you.

New Rocky Spin-Off ‘Creed’ Will Begin Filming Next Year, Get All The Details Inside

hord

We have been hearing about this Rocky spin-off for a little over a year, and it now looks like production will start on the film in January. And this news isn’t coming from some mythical source, this news is coming from the legendary Sylvester Stallone. He teased the upcoming ‘Creed‘ film briefly on his Twitter account yesterday.

cre

cree

As you can see above, Stallone hints at the plot of this Rocky spin-off. The fantastic young actor, Michael B. Jordan will star in the film as the grandson of Apollo Creed. It looks like Mr. Balboa will be stepping out of the ring to help mentor Jordan’s character as he pursues a career inside the ring.

This film has the potential to be great, with the talented Michael B. Jordan taking the lead and Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) sitting comfortably in the director’s chair. We saw how well they worked together in Fruitvale Station, so we are hoping they can pull it off again with Creed.

Like we said, production will be starting in January, which suggests the film will be out before the end of 2015. However, we believe they will wait until 2016 to release it, because that will be the 40th anniversary of the original Rocky film.

We will keep you updated.

Movie Review: The Expendables 3 – Makes the First two look like Film Masterpieces.

expendable 2014

I have to caveat this review with: If you are a senseless violence, explosion, action movie, big budget film fan, then ignore this review and go see the movie. Despite the review if there was an Expendables 8, I would be there the first day.  The below is me putting on my film critic hat.

I try to check out every single Sylvester Stallone flick because I love watching a good train wreck. Stallone is men’s answer to Madonna. He refuses to accept the fact that he is no longer 27 and can’t play the same rolls anymore. Instead, he desperately clutches onto his last vestiges of youth. It’s really an undignified, but utterly fascinating struggle.

In this third installment, Barney (Stallone), Christmas (Statham) and the rest of the team come face-to-face with Conrad Stonebanks (Gibson), who from his last name and the fact that he’s played by Mel Gibson, is obviously a bag guy. Once upon a time, Barney and Stonebanks were the best of friends, right up until Stonebanks because a ruthless arms trader. This time, Barney destroys the purpose of the Expendables in the first place, by bringing in a bunch of new kids who can actually do the job.

The whole reason the Expendables was even watchable was thrown out in this movie. The Expendables are supposed to be a bunch of old men that no one cares about anymore. In order to breathe new life into a tired premise, as well as give us some younger than 50 boob shots, a bunch of younger more tech savvy (and flexible in the morning) people are hired.

Which kind of eliminates the need for the Expendables.

arnie-expendables-3-5

hr_The_Expendables_3_21

Is it just me, or does Stallone’s face not move anymore? I swear to God, I did not see it move once during this film. Whether he was shooting down bad guys with an AK-47, or catching up on American Idol, Barney wore one expression. It was the slightly surprised look of a fading star in his 50s who got a too tight facelift.

Mel Gibson seems to be embracing these villain rolls, but he doesn’t really have a choice. I mean, when you go off on an anti-Semitic tirade against an industry that’s like 90% Jewish, you’re going to get type cast as a villain. But I think Gibson might have found his calling. I like him so much more now that he admits he’s evil.

The newbie’s in this film are a bunch of forgettable eye candy, there to keep younger viewers watching.

The Expendables was never high art, but the third installment of the series makes the first two look like Schindler’s List. This really was a poor effort and a shameless money grab.

I’m a bit disappointed in the fact that Lionsgate would even put this out as is. This is an action franchise that had a great premise. It was the premise that kept people coming back, when Stallone’s rubber face would have scared them away. To completely change the formula in the third installment smacks of desperation. Perhaps Lionsgate is losing faith in their dying franchise.

It isn’t dead yet though. The Expendables 3 is currently performing at number 4 in the box office, having earned a little over $15 million. Despite those numbers I have to say, the Expendables 3 is utterly…expendable.

The First Full ‘Expendables 3’ Trailer – Makes Getting Old Look Fun!

the-expendables-3-image-Sylvester-Stallone

With the premiere coming just a few months away, Lionsgate decided to give us a little more than a sneak peek by releasing the first full trailer.  Until now we have just been watching and rewatching the roll call teaser trailer.  To say that this is an all star cast is putting it lightly, the net worth of this cast alone is probably more than the national debt.

I think what I like most about the Expendables franchise is that it knows what it is.  It knows it’s cheesy and over the top and in the third installment they continue to embrace both of these.  The trailer shows Mel Gibson as Conrad Stonebacks and it’s clear he is the bad guy.  It also makes a few things clear; there are more stars, more explosions and more cheesy one liners – so if you liked the first two, then number 3 will not disappoint.

With a release date of August 15, as the caption says, Let’s “Get Ready for One Last Run”.   Watch the trailer below.
