You Know That ‘Knives Out 2’ Cast? Well, It Just Got EVEN MORE Impressive!

It feels like every week now, we’re talking about the upcoming ‘Knives Out’ sequel. The movie hasn’t even started production, but it’s been dominating the movie headlines for weeks.

Why? Because of the impressive cast it’s building. We all know Daniel Craig is reprising his role, and Rian Johnson is back to write/direct.

But in the past month or so, the studio has added several huge stars to the cast, including Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monae, and Kathryn Hahn.

Now we have just learned that Leslie Odom Jr. and Kate Hudson have also joined the film.

So just to put it all in one place. That’s Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson and Leslie Odom Jr. all in one movie.

Pretty incredible stuff, but also not surprising. After all, it’s a murder mystery film, which means an ensemble cast is needed. Additionally, Netflix dropped $400 million on both sequels, so they’re not going to be cheap with casting.

Filming on ‘Knives Out 2‘ is expected to begin this summer in Greece. They’re currently shooting for a 2022 release date.

Who will they add next week? Stay tuned.

Sia’s Upcoming Directorial Debut ‘Music’ Hits Global Sales Market With HanWay Films

We all know Sia as a singer/songwriter, known for hits like Chandelier and Cheap Thrills, but pretty soon, you’ll know her as Director Sia.

It was announced this week that HanWay Films is handling international sales, distribution and marketing for Sia’s upcoming feature film, Music.

The movie stars Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., and Maddie Ziegler.

Hudson plays a free spirit estranged from her family, who suddenly finds herself the sole guardian of her half-sister, played by Ziegler, a teenager on the autism spectrum, who learns that life’s obstacles can be made easier with a little help from their neighbour, Leslie Odom J

Sia wrote the screenplay for this project with help from Dallas Clayton. The script was reportedly based on Sia’s short story.

Additionally, this movie will feature 10 new Sia tracks performed as musical numbers by the cast.

It should be an interesting film. One thing we love about Sia is that she has a lot of heart. She truly feels things, and that’s one of the qualities you need as an artist.

No word on a release date, but we’ll keep you posted.

‘Shriver’ Comedy Adds Michael Shannon, Kate Hudson And More To Its Cast

The cast list for the upcoming comedy film ‘Shriver’ is becoming more impressive by the day. It was revealed this week that Michael Shannon, Kate Hudson, Don Johnson and Da’Vine Joy Randolph are set to star in the film.

This comes after it was revealed that Zach Braff, Jimmi Simpson and Aja Naomi King were also starring.

Michael Maren is the director/writer behind this project, which is based on a novel of the same named by Chris Belden.

Shriver is set at a small college, which is desperate to make a splash in the literary world and believe they have found Shriver, a famous writer who has been in hiding for 20 years.

But the person they have located is a different Shriver, a down-on-his-luck handyman who has never read a book in his life and has trouble telling the difference between his imagination and reality. With nothing to lose, this Shriver accepts the invitation to attend the college’s literary festival. But then, the ‘real’ writer shows up to expose him.

Production is expected to begin very soon. No word on a potential release date.

Movie Review: Kung Fu Panda 3 – Cute, Fun, and Intelligently Made

KFP3_MeiMei2

Here’s something I’ve only said about a few third franchises in a chain; I loved this. This is a really good, really clever storyline that unfolds pretty organically. I mean, haven’t we always kind of known Po was adopted? His father was a bird, for Christ sakes.

Well, that loose end gets tied up in Kung Fu Panda 3, where we meet Li (Bryan Cranston) Po’s (Jack Black) long lost dad. The two connect and Po gets to meet up with a whole world of pandas. All is good, until the evil yak Kai (J.K. Simmons) begins challenging Kung Fu masters across the land, and Po had to train an army of Pandas to fight.

I absolutely loved that they managed to take this in a new, fresh direction without forcing a plot point. It really was a very well done story that’s complicated enough to be intriguing, while simple enough for younger viewers to follow. The writing was phenomenal and there are more than a few laugh out loud moments.

Of course, the animation continues to be excellent and adorable. It’s the caliber of animation that’s expected to come from a DreamWorks/Disney effort. Everything about the movie is visually appealing and it would have gotten marks for that alone if the screenplay was crap.

But the screenplay wasn’t crap. It was pretty damn good. I loved the addition of Bryan Cranston, easily one of my favorite actors, and he has a great ‘dad’ voice. He helped to take this movie to a new dimension.

This movie deserved to be the one to beat out The Revenant at the Box Office. It’s just what we need to recover from that movie anyway. It’s cute, it’s fun and it’s intelligently made. This sequel was written with the same care that an original would have been and that made all the difference. It’s rare to see a number three that isn’t a shameless cash grab, and this clearly isn’t. It appears to still be a labor of love for those involved.

If that’s the caliber they keep producing, they can keep putting out one Kung Fu Panda after another forever and never have a straight to video run. Of course, that isn’t really sustainable, so while I enjoyed this movie, I have to say that enjoyment is bittersweet because I’m sure any future Kung Fu Panda movies will come up lacking when compared to this one.

It’s a fun, uplifting movie that’s tied into a neat storyline and will be difficult to beat for any future animated features. Of course, I’m not aware of any coming out soon, so Kung Fu Panda may reign at the box office for some time. This is clearly a collaborative effort, from the artists at DreamWorks, to screenwriters Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger, as well as Yuh Nelson and her co-director, Alessandro Carloni, who collaborated to deliver a terrific, well-paced storyline for Po and his companions.

If you have kids, this one is worth the watch. Heck, it’s one that’s worth the watch even if you don’t have kids.
This is absolutely worth the watch, though you may want to get comfortable. You’re going to be there awhile.

WE GIVE IT: 4.5 STARS!

It’s Official: Eddie Murphy Is Joining The Richard Pryor Biopic!

murp

Strap in and brace yourself,” is what director Lee Daniels said on his Instagram account last week after posting the photo you see down below.

Why should we brace ourselves? Well, because Eddie Murphy has officially joined the Richard Pryor biopic.

According to multiple sources, Murphy will be playing Pryor’s father and former boxer LeRoy “Buck Carter” Pryor.

It’s an interesting role for the 53-year-old comedian. LeRoy wasn’t exactly ‘Father of the Year’ material. He was reportedly an abusive alcoholic, who would punish the late comedian by beating him. Murphy will have to visit some dark places to get inside this character.

We are sure Murphy is up for the challenge though, considering Pryor is the one who inspired him to do comedy. If you have seen Eddie’s classic stand-up special ‘Raw’, then you’ll remember hearing the comedian talk about his idol.

“Richard [Pryor] is the one who made me want to do comedy. When I was young, I wanted to be Richard Pryor so bad I used to sneak in the basement, put his albums on, and just listen… I wanted to be Richard so bad, I used to go out on stage when I was 15 and talk and act and walk and everything like Richard Pryor.”

In addition to Murphy joining the cast, we are also hearing that Kate Hudson is joining the film to play Pryor’s final wife, Jennifer Lee Pryor. Oprah Winfrey has also agreed to play Pryor’s abusive grandmother.

The film does not have a release date yet, but we will keep you updated as we learn more information.
