Jake Gyllenhaal Stars In First Trailer For Boston Marathon Bombing Film, ‘Stronger’

Last year, Hollywood released their first attempt to dramatize the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Patriots Day starred Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Bacon, and while the film received mostly positive reviews from critics, some people local to the Boston area felt like it was just an attempt to make money out of a bad situation.

Well, now we have a second Boston Marathon movie coming. This one is titled ‘Stronger’ and it stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Tatiana Maslany. This story will be a bit different than the one told in Patriots Day.

Stronger will focus on the true story of one victim named Jeff Bauman, “an ordinary man who captured the hearts of his city and the world to become the symbol of hope following the infamous 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.”

Going by the trailer and synopsis (see below) I will say that I am more excited to watch this movie than I was for Patriots Day. That doesn’t mean much of anything because you can’t judge a movie by its trailer.

We’ll just have to wait for this film to hit theaters September 22, 2017.

“Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Jeff, a 27-year-old, working-class Boston man who was at the marathon to try and win back his ex-girlfriend Erin (Tatiana Maslany). Waiting for her at the finish line when the blast occurs, he loses both his legs in the attack.

After regaining consciousness in the hospital, Jeff is able to help law enforcement identify one of the bombers, but his own battle has just begun. He tackles months of physical and emotional rehabilitation with the unwavering support of Erin and his family.

It is Jeff’s deeply personal account of the heroic journey that tests a family’s bond, defines a community’s pride and inspires his inner courage to overcome devastating adversity. Filled with raw emotion, humanity and humor, Stronger is the inspirational real-life story of the man who became the living embodiment of ‘Boston Strong.'”

Interview With Ryan Reynolds And Jake Gyllenhaal Gets Weird While Promoting ‘Life’ (VIDEO)

The best time to catch celebrities in a silly/deranged state is when they’re in the middle of a long day filled with interviews. They sit in a small room, and watch as multiple reporters from around the country come in to ask them the same questions over and over again.

It can be draining, and sometimes they are forced to have fun with it…or else they’ll lose their minds. We saw this happen recently with the stars of ‘Life,’ Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal.

They were doing interviews together in Austin when one reporter asked about the alien in the movie. He asked if they knew what Calvin (the alien) looked like.

Check out what happened…

You can tell they need a break. It’s like when you were a kid, and you were trying to stay up until sunrise, but at around 3 or 4 in the morning you’d start having conversations with your lamp.

Anyway, Life hits theaters March 24, 2017. It’s been getting some pretty great reviews.

The New ‘Life’ Poster Featuring Ryan Reynolds And Jake Gyllenhaal Has Arrived! (Bonus Teaser Trailer Inside)

Last week, we were treated with a new teaser trailer for ‘Life’ and now the studio behind the project has surprised us all with a new poster.

The sci-fi thriller, directed by Daniel Espinosa, stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson. All three stars are featured in the poster you see below.

Life will hit theaters March 24, 2017, and it might be a surprise hit. You are probably getting tired of “space movies,” but this one has the potential to be great. You can check out the official synopsis and poster below. The teaser trailer can be found at the top of the page.

“The six-member crew of the International Space Station is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, and their methods end up having unintended consequences, the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.”

The Most Shocking Snubs From The 2017 Golden Globes Movie Nominations: Where Dory At Tho?

It’s a beautiful Monday morning. The Golden Globe nominations were announced, and you know what that means, there are wagons full of people complaining about the snubs.

And since everyone loves focusing on the negative, we’re going to do the same. Below, you’ll find a short list featuring a few of the biggest snubs from the list of nominees in the film categories. If you’d like to check out the full list of nominations, you can click on this link.

Finding Dory

This snub might be the biggest of them all. It was just assumed by almost everyone that Finding Dory would be nominated for Best Animated Feature Film. When the list was released, we were all checking it twice to make sure we were seeing things right. Not only was Finding Dory loved by the critics, but it was also the biggest domestic movie of the year. Both Zootopia and Moana got a nomination, as well as smaller films like Kubo and the Two Strings and My Life as a Zucchini.

Silence

It was all silent for Martin Scorsese’s Silence. He might be one of the greatest directors of all time, but the Golden Globes showed him no love. His film didn’t receive a single nomination. It’s pretty surprising, considering most people thought Andrew Garfield would clean up for his performance in the film. The good news for Garfield is that he was in another great movie this year, Hacksaw Ridge. He grabbed a Best Actor nomination for his work in Mel Gibson’s war drama.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Nocturnal Animals grabbed several Golden Globe nominations this year, and for good reason..it’s a legit thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the movie and his performance was great as usual, but apparently it wasn’t great enough. He did not get nominated for Best Actor, which is extra surprising because he was nominated the past few years for Nightcrawler and even Love and Other Drugs. But honestly, I think they got it right this year. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stole the show in Nocturnal Animals, and he was awarded with a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Seth Rogen And Bradley Cooper Audition For The Role Of Cher In ‘Clueless’ (VIDEO)

ali

We are right in the middle of the week. Too far away from Monday to be depressed and whiny, but too far away from Friday to be excited and happy. You need something to give you a little boost of energy, and it can’t be another cup of coffee because you reached your daily limit two hours ago.

We have something special for you. In a new video from W Magazine, a few of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood try their best to bring their own flavor to Alicia Silverstone‘s role in the 1995 classic, Clueless.

Seth Rogen, Bradley Cooper and Jake Gyllenhaal were asked to audition for the role of Cher Horowitz, reading lines from the character’s famous debate scene.

And before the reading started, Mr. Gyllenhaal realized he’s already the male version of Cher, “I’d like to preface this by saying that what was unfortunate about reading through this for the first time — and I would just also like to say that I just got this — is that I realized that I talk like this, which is a bummer.”

Watch the hilarious clip below, and then maybe make your own audition video? Put it on YouTube. Or don’t. That’s probably a bad idea.

Movie Review: Southpaw (2015) – Strong Plot But Falters on Execution

The second I heard that yet another dramatic boxing movie had been made, I immediately thought “great, another attempt to copy Rocky.” I was expecting it to be filled with clichés, featuring an underdog who has to choose between the love of the sport and his own health, while a disapproving wife looks on. While that movie definitely had that, it also had some unique angles that made it a bit better than I expected it would be.

Billy Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal), a man who grew up in an orphanage in Hell’s Kitchen, is a light-heavyweight champion in the ring with a unique fighting style that I’ve never quite seen in a sports movie. He has a unique ability to absorb pain, and uses this to allow his opponent to beat him until he’s filled with rage, at which point, he just starts kicking butt. Maureen (Rachel McAdams) is his lifelong love, with another unique twist. She grew up in the same orphanage, so she gets him and his need to be strong. When his manager Jordan Mains (50 Cent) brings in a contract for a three-fight deal, she opposes it, thinking his body has undergone enough punishment.

I immediately started thinking, ‘great, another movie where a boxer is torn between his love of the ring and his health.” Then, everything changes. Billy gets into a fight in a hotel, a gun is fired, his soul mate is killed, and he’s left to raise his young daughter Leila (Oona Laurence), alone. The downward spiral begins and soon, he loses everything because he’s completely lost to grief and anger.

This is a comeback story with a great set up and an insurmountable tragedy. I will say that the comeback pretty much sticks to formulaic, Rocky-like ‘wise older man teaches young angry dude how to live again.’

While the plot is strong, I have to say that much of the cast didn’t feel very human to me. Instead, it feels like they came out of the ‘character-o-matic’ by the corporate movie machine, designed to make Oscar bait. The dialog is too stagnant to really bring these characters to life, which is a shame.

SOUTHPAW SOUTHPAW[/caption]

Gyllenhaal is a slurry, stumbling trainwreck of a character. Maureen is your standard “stand by your man long suffering wife” and Jordan is a one dimensional sports agent who acts pretty much how you’d expect him to act. The actors do their best with the poor dialog they were given, but it still isn’t very strong, despite a compelling plot.

I’m torn on this one. I’d give this a strong score on plot, but less on execution. In a movie like this, character development is key and I just didn’t feel it. It’s a movie that should have a human touch, but instead feels like a poorly commercialized attempt at Oscar bait.

I can’t say I loved it, but I can’t say I hated it. Would I trouble myself to go all the way to the theater for it? Probably not. But if you can get it on demand, I’d give it a worth the watch.

Body by Jake? Jake Gyllenhaal reveals dramatic Transformation for his new Role.

Jake Gyllenhaal as boxer Billy Hope

I wasn’t sure if that was a painting or the real deal. It is indeed the real deal.

Jake has been hitting the gym something fierce for his new role as boxer Billy Hope in the movie Southpaw and thanks to the image released by Deadline we get to see just how well the work is paying off.

While the world is amazed at the 15 or so lbs that he has put on for the role, we quickly forgot about the weight that he lost for ‘Nightcrawler’.  During an interview earlier this year he described himself as a Coyote, and that the lean look was necessary to make his character in ‘Nightcrawler’ believable,

“I would try to eat as few calories as possible. I knew if I was hungry that I was in the right spot. Physically, it showed itself, but chemically and mentally, I think it was even a more fascinating journey. It became a struggle for me.”

For ‘Southpaw’ Gyllenhaal has taken a Hugh Jackman type dedication to prepare both mentally and physically for the role. The film will be directed by Antoine Fuqua who says that the plan was for fans to shake the Gyllenhaal we just saw in Nightcrawler and give us something new. Fuqua describes the intense regimen,

“I had him training twice a day in the boxing ring, he did two-a-days seven days a week. I pretty much had him with me and my trainer every day. I took him to almost every fight. I had him train at Floyd Mayweather’s gym in Vegas and we watched Floyd’s fights, and the Manny Pacquiao fight. He trained in New York at Church Gym with real fighters. We literally turned him into a beast… I’m confident that this will change how people see Jake, as a leading man.”

Fuqua says that he believes that Jake has even broken up with a girlfriend because of the training.  He said that he encouraged Jake to take on more “manly” roles,

I met Jake years ago before he did End of Watch, and I saw something in him. I told him he needed to do more masculine films because I could see he had this power in him, and good size, and great expressive eyes.

I think Fuqua was saying nicely, you need to shake that Broke Back Mountain movie and move on, which Jake has successfully done.  In Prince of Persia, Gyllenhaal was quite ripped, although in Southpaw, I’d say he’s buff.

Southpaw is another boxer movie where the hero overcomes incredible challenges both inside and outside the ring. Just when things are going well inside the ring for our hero, his life is falling apart outside. Cast along with Gyllenhaal is Naomie Harris as well as Forest Whitaker who plays a boxer forced to retire because of damage to his eye. Very appropriate.

The film is slated to be released next near. After that photo we can’t wait to see the trailer.

Watch Jake Gyllenhaal Go Nuts In Brand New ‘Nightcrawler’ Trailer

Jake-Gyllenhaal-Nightcrawler

The new trailer for Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler has fans crawling out of their seats in anticipation. The twisted thriller stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a freelance crime journalist in California.  He’s desperate and willing to do anything to get a decent story.

However, his bosses want more from him. They want more shocking footage, and it isn’t long before the crime reporter becomes the crime facilitator. Jake Gyllenhaal passed up on a fat paycheck with Into The Woods to star in this film, and he had to lose 20 pounds, but it looks like all the hard work will pay off. This new trailer already has people talking about a possible 2015 Oscar nomination for Jake.

The film also stars Rene Russo and Bill Paxton. It’s scheduled to be released October 31.
