Never Turn Your Back On Family: ‘Fate of the Furious’ Breaks Worldwide Box Office Records

It looks like Vin Diesel knew what he was doing when he decided to continue the Fast & Furious franchise. Even though the films are caricatures of what they once were, fans continue to pack the theaters every time a new installment is released.

The eighth film (Fate of the Furious) in the franchise was released this past weekend and it broke several records at the worldwide box office.

It took home an estimated $532.5 million worldwide to set the record for highest global box office opening ever. One interesting thing about this is that the film actually dropped off in North America.

You’ll remember that Furious 7 took home $147.2 million during its opening weekend in 2015. Fate of the Furious opened to just $100.2 million here in the states. It was the international market that saved the film.

It earned a ridiculous $432.3 million internationally in 63 foreign markets. $190 million of that coming from China, where the franchise is more popular than ever. That’s obviously great news for the franchise, but the studio is probably still a little disappointed by the decline here in the US.

Mainly because Hollywood studios only take 25% of Chinese ticket sales. According to Variety, that’s roughly half of what they earn in most major markets.

But when you’re bringing in a total of $532.5 million in your opening weekend, 25% vs. 50% doesn’t really matter as much.

‘Fast & Furious’ Franchise Will Be With Us Forever, Vin Diesel Admits Spinoff Movies Are Being Planned

furi

Money is a wonderful thing. Hollywood loves anything that makes money, and the Fast & Furious franchise has made a lot of money. Furious 7 was just the fourth film in history to pass the $1.5 billion mark at the box office. And just a little over one week after its digital/DVD release, the film brought in over $50 million more. It sold over 2.5 million units on Blu-Ray and DVD in its first week of release.

Incredible numbers, right? Vin Diesel knows he has a wonderful thing going, and he’s trying his best to keep this train moving for several more years. During an interview with Variety, the actor confirmed spinoff movies are being developed right now.

“We’ve written out story lines for various characters. We’ve been playing with it for a long time. It’s a very rich property and we’re committed to treating it with a lot of class.”

This means Furious 8 won’t be the end of the series. It’s currently scheduled for a release date of April 14, 2017. And it sounds like everyone involved wants to focus on producing a great story. Even though some fans only care about the ridiculous stunts, Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Jeff Shell, knows a great story is the most important part.

“You can’t keep having every movie have bigger and bigger stunts forever and ever and ever. Eventually you have to really focus on the story. We’ll still have big stunts but bringing in this amazing storyteller (F. Gary Gray) is going to be great.”

Every story needs a “the end,” though. How long will Fast & Furious fans continue to support the franchise? I guess we’ll find out in 2017. Box office numbers for Furious 8 are going to be very interesting.

Universal Breaks HUGE International Box-Office Record, Get The Details Inside!

Universal Pictures is having a historic year at the box office. Thanks to global hits like Furious 7, Jurassic World, Minions and Fifty Shades of Grey. They have smashed several records this year, and they just passed another record at the international box office.

The studio has grossed a record-breaking $3.78 billion at the international box office. That makes it the highest-grossing year ever. And if you have been following the box office results, you shouldn’t be surprised by this. Universal has four of the top five highest-grossing films of the year internationally.

  1. Furious 7 ($1.162 billion)
  2. Jurassic World (983.5 million)
  3. Minions ($670.2 million)
  4. Fifty Shades of Grey ($404.1 million)

Disney’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is the only film getting in the way of a clean sweep for Universal. If you combine everything with the domestic sales, grosses have already passed the $5 billion mark. It’s only the 4th studio to reach that impressive mark, and we must remind everyone that it’s only August!

Duncan Clark, President of Distribution for Universal Pictures International told THR the following…

“We are very proud of the overwhelming success we have had at the international box office. There are countless people who contribute to this level of success. First and foremost our studio executive ranks, led by Jeff Shell and Donna Langley, then of course our filmmakers and talent.”

Of course, the studio isn’t finished yet. They still have the international release of Straight Outta Compton, Danny Boyle‘s Steve Jobs and Guillermo del Toro‘s Crimson Peak.

‘Furious 7’ Is Now China’s Highest-Grossing Film Of All Time

This Furious 7 movie just can’t stop breaking records. In its second full week in the Chinese market, the action film took home 450 million yuan ($74 million), which brings the impressive box office total up to over 2 billion yuan ($332 million).

In just 15 days, the movie has passed the previous record of $319 million held by the Transformers: Age of Extinction. According to the research group Entgroup, China is the biggest box office territory in the world for Vin Diesel’s baby.

Back in North America, Furious 7 is still holding strong. The film has been at the number one spot since its release earlier this month, although, that will change this weekend with The Avengers: Age of Ultron being released.

What other records does this movie have? Well, it’s the fastest live-action film to take home more than $1 billion worldwide. And after going over the $1.32 billion mark, it’s now more successful than Frozen.

Maybe Vin Diesel was right when he said this movie would win Best Picture at the Oscars?

“It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever. This will win best picture. There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing.”

Okay, okay. We all know that’s never going to happen; however, the noise this movie is making around the world is pretty impressive.

Are You Ready For Another One? ‘Fast & Furious 8’ Gets Official Release Date!

mr

Come on, you didn’t really think ‘Furious 7’ was the end, right? After breaking almost every box office record and scoring big with critics, there was no way the franchise was going to throw in the towel.

Vin Diesel surprised everyone at CinemaCon yesterday with a huge announcement. He revealed that they are planning to bring the next Fast & Furious movie into theaters April 14, 2017.

And honestly, that date is a little surprising. We knew an eighth film would happen, but we don’t think anyone was expecting it to happen this soon.

The official title for the film hasn’t been released, but we have been hearing some rumors about what might be happening in this latest installment. We know a good portion of the movie will take place in New York.

We are also hearing that Eva Mendes will return as Agent Fuentes, which makes sense because the government will play an even bigger role in this next film. Kurt Russell’s brilliant “Mr. Nobody” character will also be returning.

That’s all we know at the moment, but more information will be coming out soon. It will be interesting to see how successful this next movie is.

Will people still be interested in it after the perfect ending we saw in Furious 7?

‘Furious 7’ Breaks Box Office Records With Insane Opening Weekend!

fas

The experts predicted this film would bring in a lot of money during its opening weekend, but no one was predicting over $140 million.

$115 million was the number everyone agreed on before the release, and Universal’s Furious 7 raced past that number with ease. After scoring big with an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the seventh film in the franchise took home $143.6 million during its opening weekend.

And as you can imagine, there were several records shattered during the process. It is now the biggest April opening in history, and the first April film to go over the $100 million mark. It’s also the most successful opening (so far) this year, and the largest opening of all the films in the Fast & Furious franchise.

But wait, there’s more! It’s the highest debut since the second Hunger Games film was released back in 2013.

Universal Pictures’ president of domestic distribution told Deadline the following…

“Originally, we planned to release the picture last July, but that wasn’t going to happen, so we thought of April because opening on Good Friday has proven historically to be a very good thing to do.”

Would you like more numbers? Of course you would! Furious 7 earned $240.4 million overseas, which brings its worldwide total up to $384 million.

I don’t think ‘success’ is the right word for this film…

‘Furious 7’ Is Going To Break Box Office Records, Find Out How Much It Could Bring In

furi

There will be a lot of people online saying, “The only reason people care is because Paul Walker died.” And while it would be silly to claim his death won’t have an impact on the amount of tickets sold, it’s just as silly to claim that’s the only reason this movie is receiving positive reviews.

As it stands right now (and it will change) the film has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. The small number of critics and fans who have seen the film claim it is one of the best in the franchise. Not only because of the emotional impact, but also because it’s a well-made action film.

And let’s not pretend like this franchise wasn’t making an insane amount of money before Walker’s death. The Fast & Furious films have already made over $2.4 billion, and the last film earned over $700 million worldwide.

So, when we tell you that the experts predict Furious 7 will bring in $115 million during its opening weekend, we don’t want to hear how it’s only because of Paul Walker.

If the experts are right, Furious 7 will have the biggest April opening in history. Last year, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, broke the record with $95 million. This means even if the experts are off by $15 million, Furious 7 would still break the April record.

April Mendoza, marketing director of Cinépolis USA, claims they are already close to selling out prime weekend showtimes and will most likely have to add extra screenings.

She told Variety the following…

“Moviegoers have grown up with the storyline and characters, so seeing the film is more than just another movie in a series. It’s about reliving your youth, seeing your heroes continue to succeed and saying goodbye to a beloved character and actor who you respected and loved.”

We’ll see what happens. I think it will easily go over the $100 million mark. Make sure to buy your tickets early!

Furious 7 hits theaters April 3.

Watch All The Super Bowl Movie Trailers, Including ‘Furious 7’ and ‘Jurassic World’

Apparently, something called the ‘Super Bowl‘ aired last night. I’m still not exactly sure what those people wearing the helmets on the field do, but I did enjoy the amount of movie trailers aired during the big game. Overall, the Super Bowl commercials were disappointing. I think I chuckled once? Maybe twice? The creativity was definitely lacking this year.

However, there was one thing that saved the night, and no we are not talking about the dancing sharks during Katy Perry’s halftime show.

shar sharr

We are talking about the movie trailers, of course! This Super Bowl was filled with trailers, and we enjoyed every single minute of it. If you missed the trailers last night, thanks to a French onion dip induced coma, don’t you worry about it!

You can watch all of the trailers that aired during the Super Bowl down below. You are welcome.

Furious 7 Official Trailer – Some Walker and a lot of Wow!

Fast and Furious Cast on post with Fast and Furious Furious 7 Trailer

E! held a live panel discussion that I have to say was just “painful”.  Thank God that Ludacris and Jason Statham were there because the rest of the cast was like watching very attractive paint dry.  Vin Diesel struggles to find his next thought and Tyrese is so full of himself that even when he’s trying not to be full of himself, it comes off as a guy who is full of himself trying to let people think that he’s not.  (Did you get that?).

Statham and Ludacris are just charming without effort and the Rock who is also super charismatic was unfortunately not there.  However, don’t’ worry, as you can see in the trailer he is in the movie.

Furious 7 is the first film that actually takes place after Tokyo Drift.  The previous films actually take place after Furious 2 and Tokyo drift.  This is something that I did not realize until this past week.   Universal released a seven second behind the scenes video each day up until today in an effort they called “7 Seconds of 7″.  Honestly they were all really not worthy of reporting on because the trailer is all I and most fans really wanted to see.

THE TRAILER

If you are a movie snob, or one of the people who sit there and point out things like physics and gravity and what is real life and what is not, then this isn’t for you and I suggest you click a link and move on.  If you are not, then you will not be able to contain your excitement.  This is everything a car/action movie ever wants to be.  It takes cars, action, money, hot guys, hot girls and fight scenes to the level that modern day blockbusters with IMAX viewing should be.  The movie hits theaters April 3, 2015.

At this point talk (and type) is cheap so without further adieu I present: FURIOUS 7 – THE OFFICIAL TRAILER

‘Fast & Furious 7’ Reveals Official Title, New Poster And Release Date For First Trailer!

A lot is happening inside the Fast & Furious universe. We learned this past weekend that the official title of the film will be, Furious 7. Universal also released the first poster and revealed the first trailer is less than a week away.

The trailer will be released on Saturday, November 1st, and it’s going to be a pretty big deal. There will be a live event starting at 3pm EST on Saturday. It will be streamed live from Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Stars of the film, including Michelle Rodriguez, Vin Diesel and Tyrese Gibson, will be there to answer questions from fans all over the world.

How can you ask the cast a question? It’s simple. Just record a short video of yourself asking the question you want answered, upload the video to Instagram and slap it with the hashtag #AskFurious7. If they select your question, it will be shown on the live feed, which you can watch on the official Facebook page, and on the E! Network.

The team behind the film promises this will be the best movie in the franchise. As you all know, Furious 7 was pushed back a year following the tragic death of Paul Walker. The film will now hit theaters April 3, 2015. You will not want to miss it.
