‘Incredibles 2’ Just Smashed The Thursday Box Office Debut Record For An Animated Film

Earlier this week we told you that ‘Incredibles 2‘ had a chance to break the record for biggest opening weekend for an animated film. ‘Finding Dory‘ currently has the record, making $135 million during its opening weekend in 2016.

Most experts believe Incredibles 2 will make around $130 million this weekend, but some believe it’ll make $140 million, and it looks like that number might be more accurate.

During its Thursday night debut, the Pixar sequel soared to a record-smashing $18.5 million. That is a new record for an animated film. It’s more than double what Finding Dory made during its Thursday preview.

“The preview number for Incredibles 2 was better than Beauty and the Beast ($16.3 million), Spider-Man: Homecoming ($15.4 million), and Thor: Ragnarok ($14.5 million). It nearly matched the $18.6 million preview number for Deadpool 2 last month.”

I think it’s safe to assume Incredibles 2 will smash the $135 million opening weekend set by Finding Dory. It’s not like the numbers are going to drop after Thursday. It has a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and great word of mouth going for it.

Hell, I think it pushes $150 million. Check out the trailer below…

The Most Shocking Snubs From The 2017 Golden Globes Movie Nominations: Where Dory At Tho?

It’s a beautiful Monday morning. The Golden Globe nominations were announced, and you know what that means, there are wagons full of people complaining about the snubs.

And since everyone loves focusing on the negative, we’re going to do the same. Below, you’ll find a short list featuring a few of the biggest snubs from the list of nominees in the film categories. If you’d like to check out the full list of nominations, you can click on this link.

Finding Dory

This snub might be the biggest of them all. It was just assumed by almost everyone that Finding Dory would be nominated for Best Animated Feature Film. When the list was released, we were all checking it twice to make sure we were seeing things right. Not only was Finding Dory loved by the critics, but it was also the biggest domestic movie of the year. Both Zootopia and Moana got a nomination, as well as smaller films like Kubo and the Two Strings and My Life as a Zucchini.

Silence

It was all silent for Martin Scorsese’s Silence. He might be one of the greatest directors of all time, but the Golden Globes showed him no love. His film didn’t receive a single nomination. It’s pretty surprising, considering most people thought Andrew Garfield would clean up for his performance in the film. The good news for Garfield is that he was in another great movie this year, Hacksaw Ridge. He grabbed a Best Actor nomination for his work in Mel Gibson’s war drama.

Jake Gyllenhaal

Nocturnal Animals grabbed several Golden Globe nominations this year, and for good reason..it’s a legit thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the movie and his performance was great as usual, but apparently it wasn’t great enough. He did not get nominated for Best Actor, which is extra surprising because he was nominated the past few years for Nightcrawler and even Love and Other Drugs. But honestly, I think they got it right this year. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stole the show in Nocturnal Animals, and he was awarded with a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

It’s No Secret, The ‘Secret Life of Pets’ Is A Massive Hit, Find Out How Much It Made During Its Box Office Debut!

sec

Damn. It’s officially the year of animation. Last year you had the comic book films taking over the box office, and now you have films like Zootopia, Finding Dory, and The Secret Life of Pets taking over. Out of the three huge hits, Finding Dory had the biggest opening with $135 million, but Illumination Entertainment’s Secret Life of Pets wasn’t too far behind.

The film, which has scored an impressive 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, dominated the box office this weekend with a $103.2 million opening. It’s just the sixth animated feature to open above the $100 million mark. What makes the success even more surprising is that the film was made for just $75 million, which is pretty cheap compared to what most major studios spend on animated movies.

Honestly, this is about more than just great opening weekend numbers. A new franchise has been created, and you can bet every kid in the world is going to want a stuffed animal of their favorite character.

Senior media analyst at comScore told Fortune the following

“Somebody at Illumination is popping the champagne and pouring out the Kibble. The love that people have for their fish, their bird, their dogs, or their hamsters is demonstrated by their insatiable appetite for a movie like this.”

Meanwhile, Finding Dory continues to perform well at the box office. After spending three weekends at number one before being kicked out of the spot by Secret Life of Pets, the Pixar sequel has earned a domestic total of $422 million, and is in prime position to be the highest grossing film of the year.

Theater In California Forced To Apologize To Angry Parents After Showing ‘Sausage Party’ Trailer For ‘Finding Dory’ Audience

Parents in California were horrified when Seth Rogen’s R-rated Sausage Party trailer started playing before a screening of Finding Dory. And if you’ve watched the trailer for Rogen’s movie, you know it starts out like a typical family film put out by Pixar.

So we have to imagine the children inside the theater were really paying attention to this trailer when it quickly transformed from a lovable Pixar film to a bunch of naughty vegetables talking like Samuel L. Jackson.

After the upset parents complained, the Vice-President of Operations for the Brenden Theatre Corporation sent out an apology, explaining this was a one-time, honest mistake. No one was trying to play any tricks.

“The wrong movie was started by mistake. Our movies are now started and stopped by computer and a click of a mouse. We moved a couple of screens to larger houses to accommodate some walk-up groups over a very, very busy Dory weekend. In the rush one hardworking manager clicked the wrong movie. It was caught soon but not until that trailer was played. We regret it, apologize for it and we are not happy that it happened.”

Ah, it’s okay, Those kids might have heard a few f-bombs and witnessed some of their favorite foods get brutally murdered on the big screen, but it could have been worse.

Last year, a theater in Ohio accidentally started playing Insidious 3 instead of Inside Out. Children were reportedly “asking lots of questions” after watching people being tied up and murdered on screen.

‘Finding Dory’ Is The Box Office Champ For Second Week In A Row, ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Opens With Disappointing Numbers

inde

Well, we told you this was coming. After we heard that critics in the US weren’t getting an early screening of Independence Day: Resurgence, we figured that was a bad sign. If they were truly proud of the movie they produced, they would have opened the doors to every critic out there.

But the truth is, the studio probably knew they were in a bit of trouble with this one. International critics destroyed the movie before its weekend release here in the states, which probably contributed to the poor performance at the box office.

The sequel took home just $41.6 million in the US, and that might sound like a lot of money, but we must remind you that the original film took home $50 million during its opening weekend back in 1996. And that was 20 years ago, when ticket prices wouldn’t take half your paycheck.

And this sequel was reportedly made for $165 million, so yeah…it’s safe to assume the studio must be a little disappointed. Even the international opening of $102.1 million still has to be disappointing. If you combine the totals, it still comes in below the $165 million budget, which doesn’t even include the ridiculous amount of money spent on marketing the film.

But hey, it wasn’t all bad news at the box office. Finding Dory is still bringing in that money. The sequel to Finding Nemo was at the top of the box office again this weekend. It brought home another $72 million, bringing its domestic total to a sweet $286 million.

Did ‘Finding Dory’ Grab The Record For Biggest Animated Film Opening? Get The Details Inside!

dorr

We told you last week that Finding Dory was projected to make around $115 million during its opening weekend. If the film reached that impressive total, it would have been the second most successful opening weekend for any animated feature film.

2007’s Shrek the Third held the record for the most successful opening ever with $121.6 million. Pixar’s Finding Dory needed to go $7 million over what the experts predicted this past weekend to beat Shrek.

Did Dory do it? Yes. The answer is yes, and it wasn’t even close. The sequel to Finding Nemo took home $136.2 million in theaters across the country. It destroyed the projections and now holds the record for the highest-grossing animated debut of all time.

Senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian told Fox News that no one expected this. Most people were just wondering if it would beat Toy Story 3’s $110 million opening.

“The thought was: ‘Could this be the movie to eclipse Toy Story 3’s opening?’ not, ‘Could it become the biggest animated opening of all time?’ That’s the power of the Pixar brand.”

And it’s just going to continue to make a ridiculous amount of money at the box office. It won’t have any animated competition until The Secret Life of Pets is released on July 8.

Meanwhile, Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson’s comedy Central Intelligence came in at a distant second with a $34.5 million opening weekend. That’s not bad, but it’s certainly not all hunky-dory.

The Predictions Are In, ‘Finding Dory’ Projected To Have Second Biggest Opening This Summer!

Finding Dory, the sequel to Pixar’s massive hit Finding Nemo, will hit theaters this weekend and it’s expected to make a lot of money. When the first film was released over 10 years ago, it shocked everyone by bringing home a total of $867 million worldwide. It made just a little over $70 million during its opening weekend in the states.

So what are the predictions for the sequel? Well, it’s looking like Finding Dory could make up to $115 million during its opening weekend at the box office. If the predictions are correct, it would be the second biggest opening this summer behind Captain America: Civil War’s $179.1 million total.

The stage is certainly set for an incredible opening weekend. Finding Dory will be the widest Pixar release in history as it will be featured in over 4,300 theaters. Most of those theaters will have the 3D option, which will help boost the total.

In addition to the huge release, the sequel is getting great reviews from critics. It has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. 73 fresh reviews to just 4 rotten reviews. When critics enjoy a film most people were already excited to watch…good things happen.

It will be interesting to see if Finding Dory can beat these initial predictions. Shrek the Third currently holds the record for best opening weekend for an animated film. It made $121.6 million, so Dory and her friends don’t have to swim too far to take down Shrek.

Watch: The Underwater Adventure Is Back In First Trailer For ‘Finding Dory’

It’s been over 10 years since Finding Nemo was released. And as you all know, the film was a huge hit. It was the second-highest grossing film of 2003 with an impressive $936 million worldwide total, oh, and it also won the academy award for Best Animated Feature.

We shouldn’t have to tell you, but when a film is that successful, it’s going to get a sequel. It might have taken a little longer than we expected, but the highly anticipated Pixar sequel is finally here. Director/writer Andrew Stanton has returned for Finding Dory.

In the sequel, Dory (voiced by the lovely Ellen DeGeneres) searches for answers about her past and her parents, who will be voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton. According to information released a few months ago, the story in the sequel is set just six months after the events in Finding Nemo.

Obviously, since this is just the first trailer, it doesn’t reveal that much about the story. It’s a wonderful teaser trailer, but those expecting a full trailer might be a little disappointed.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters June 17, 2016.

The Plot And Primary Setting Of ‘Finding Dory’ Has Been Revealed!

dorr

The long-awaited sequel to Pixar’s second highest-grossing film of all time Finding Nemo, is not expected to hit theaters until the spring of 2016. However, we are already learning some important details behind Finding Dory.

Pixar President Jim Morris spoke to the crowd at The Comic Con Experience in Brazil, and revealed some intriguing details about the setting and plot of the film.

According to Morris, the story in Finding Dory takes place just six months after the first movie. Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, goes with Nemo on a class trip. During the trip, memories trigger a case of home sickness for Dory, which leads her on a quest to find her true home.

Morris also revealed that the majority of the film will take place at the Marine Biology Institute of California,

“The movie will be mostly set at the California Marine Biology Institute, a huge complex of sea life rehabilitation and aquarium, where Dory was born and raised. We will get to meet new characters, like an octopus, sea lions, a beluga whale, among others.”

We know two of those new characters will be Dory’s parents, voiced by Eugene Levy (Eyebrows) and Diane Keaton. The beluga whale Morris mentioned will be voiced by Ty Burrell.

Finding Dory will open in a theater near you June 17, 2016. Keep your eyes open for posters, trailers, etc! We will have them all for you.
