Josh Brolin Slams The Oscars For Not Giving Denis Villeneuve Directing Nom For ‘Dune’

It’s “in” right now to hate on the Oscars. Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Rogen, and now Josh Brolin have slammed the Academy Awards this past week, all for different reasons. Rogen just thinks the awards are dumb in general, Kimmel had beef that Spider-Man: No Way Home didn’t get a Best Picture nomination, and pondered why all Oscar nominations have to be serious.

And then Brolin? Well, he was extremely upset that ‘Dune‘ director Denis Villeneuve failed to receive a nomination for Best Director.

It was perhaps one of the bigger snubs this year. After all, Dune was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, but for some reason Villeneuve didn’t get nominated for Best Director. It’s a bit of a head scratcher, considering the film earned nominations in every individual crafts category.

Brolin posted a video to Instagram to speak out against the snub…

And the unbelievable, almost numbing, flummoxing I feel for Denis Villeneuve not being nominated for best director. It’s just one of those things where you go, ‘Huh? What?!’ I don’t know how you get 10 nominations and then the guy who has done the impossible with that book doesn’t get nominated. It makes you realize that it’s all amazing and then it’s all f–king totally dumb. So congratulations for the amazing accomplishments that these incredibly talented people have been acknowledged for, because it’s all really, really dumb.

Yikes. You have to wonder how the crew feels about this, you know, the ones who were actually nominated. The Academy can be petty, so what if Brolin’s comments hurt their chances of winning? Maybe he should have raised hell after the ceremony.

But it’s out there now. It’s super hot to hate the Oscars right now. Join the party!

Blade Runner 2049 Teaser Trailer Will Have you Dusting off the Original! (VIDEO)

I’m going to save the “Hollywood Reboot” rant for later.  This is actually a legitimate sequel.  Just the appearance of Harrison Ford will make you grab the 1982 VCR cassette and pop it in….wait… Pop it in what?  Nobody has VCR’s.  It will have you on Amazon Prime ordering the original and watching this on your commute home.

In the quick teaser trailer we know that Ford is reprising his role as ex-cop Rick Deckard.  Ford’s involvement along with Ridley Scott, make this sequel worth the wait.  Besides getting the passion and talent that the first film had, another advantage of the Ford – Scott combination is the ability to attract other top talent.  Besides Ryan Gosling playing the lead, Ada de Armas, Robin Wright and Jared Leto will be rounding out the cast.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film is due to be released on October 17, 2017.

Here is the synopsis that was released with the trailer:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

The Reviews Are Coming In For Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Arrival’ And You Might Be Surprised By How Positive They Are

The first trailer for the upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Arrival‘ intrigued me. I wouldn’t say I was blown away by the trailer, but it was enough to get me interested. I thought it had the potential to be something special.

Then I kinda forgot about the movie. I’ve seen some advertisements for it around town, but there are so many out there you just start to zone them all out. Now the movie is just two days away from being released and the reviews are starting to come in.

And the reviews are extremely positive. Some critics are even saying it’s the best film of the year. 85 reviews have been counted and 83 of those reviews were deemed “fresh” by Rotten Tomatoes.

Most critics give two people the credit for the film’s success: Amy Adams and director Denis Villeneuve. The critics love Villeneuve, and for good reason. He directed last year’s surprise hit Sicario. Many people (myself included) considered it to be one of the best films of 2015.

Brian Truitt from USA Today wrote the following about Arrival:

“Arrival is such a beautiful and thought-provoking film that it almost singlehandedly makes up for every bad aliens-coming-to-Earth film you’ve ever seen.”

And Mara Reinstein from Us Weekly had this to say:

“The sci-fi thriller not only subverts expectations in brilliant ways, it explores deeply felt themes of life, loss and love. In other words, it’s light-years away from Independence Day 3.”

You can check out the official synposis and trailer below. Check it out at a theater near you this weekend.

“When mysterious spacecraft touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – are brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.”

Wow…Denis Villeneuve’s Sci-Fi Alien Drama ‘Arrival’ Looks Incredible, Check Out The First Trailer Inside!

Denis Villeneuve is so hot right now. Last year he directed the Oscar-nominated thriller Sicario starring Emily Blunt, and this year he’s coming right back with sci-fi drama Arrival. The movie is based on the short story ‘Story of Your Life,’ which was written by Ted Chiang. It won the 2000 Nebula Award for Best Novella.

Paramount Pictures released a teaser for the film last week that got some people talking, and now this week the first  full trailer has arrived. In the trailer, we see that aliens have landed on Earth. We say landed because invasion seems to be too strong of a word for what is really going on. The story focuses on language, and how just one little miscommunication could change everything for two species on the verge of a global war.

After watching the trailer, I can now say I’ll be watching this movie opening weekend. It has the potential to be something truly special.

Arrival stars Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker and Jeremy Renner. It will play at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival before hitting theaters November 11, 2016.

‘Sicario’ Director Wants To Make A James Bond Movie, Read His Comments Inside!

Still don’t know who Denis Villeneuve is? That’s about to change soon. He’s one of the most talented directors in Hollywood right now. He’s responsible for directing Jake Gyllenhaal in Enemy and Prisoners. Both films receiving mostly positive reviews from fans and critics.

His latest film, Sicario, starring Emily Blunt might be his best work yet. It will be released nationwide this Friday, and you should probably go see it. It has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! Of course, there is also another huge movie coming out this weekend: The Martian starring Matt Damon. My suggestion? Make plans to see both on the same day.

Anyway, now that we have established how talented Villeneuve is, let’s talk about the comments he made during an interview with Coming Soon. He was asked about how Sicario features more action than his previous films, and that’s when he started talking about his mad love for the Bond films.

“It’s strange, because I understand that each genre has its own specific rules, but for me, they are all movies. I’m just attracted to try to do different things, and I was very excited to make a movie that required more action. I was raised with James Bond. I love James Bond movies. I would love to do a James Bond movie one day. Action is very cinematic. I’m not someone that loves dialogue – I am someone that loves movement. Action, if it’s well done, can be very poetic and meaningful.”

As some of you may know, director Sam Mendes claims this upcoming Spectre film will be his last with the franchise, so it looks like they will be looking for a new director for the next movie in the series.

Could Villeneuve get the job?

Emily Blunt Is The New Badass In Hollywood, See Her In Action In The New ‘Sicario’ Trailer!

bl

For those who still haven’t purchased their ticket to ride the Emily Blunt train, we suggest you do that now. The actress, who once starred as Meryl Streep’s snooty assistant in The Devil Wears Prada, is now one of the hottest action stars in Hollywood.

After the success of Looper and Edge of Tomorrow, the 32-year-old actress hopes her new film Sicario will be just as successful. And after watching the trailer, we think it’s safe to say she has nothing to worry about. The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) also stars Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin.

The film premiered last month at the Cannes Film Festival, and the early reviews have been extremely positive. There were a few critics who weren’t impressed, but we’re just going to ignore their comments. They were probably just in a bad mood when they watched it.

Sicario hits theaters September 18 for a limited release, followed by a wide release just one week later. Check out the official trailer and synopsis below…

In Mexico, SICARIO means hitman. In the lawless border area stretching between the U.S. and Mexico, an idealistic FBI agent (Emily Blunt) is enlisted by an elite government task force official (Josh Brolin) to aid in the escalating war against drugs. Led by an enigmatic consultant with a questionable past (Benicio Del Toro), the team sets out on a clandestine journey forcing Kate to question everything that she believes in order to survive.
