Ralph Breaks The Internet And Creed II Dominate The Thanksgiving Box Office

We told you last week that Ralph Breaks the Internet and Creed II were set to have a great Thanksgiving weekend at the box office, and we (and everyone else) were right.

Ralph Breaks the Internet took home $84.5 million, which is a huge number. Most experts had it closer to $65 or $70 million. The $84.5 million total is the second-best Thanksgiving opening ever only behind another Disney film, Frozen.

Meanwhile, Creed II made $55 million, which is a little more than the $45-$50 million predicted. It’s the biggest launch for a live action movie during this holiday frame.

In general, it was a great weekend for the box office. Ticket sales jumped above the $300 million mark for the first time during Thanksgiving. It’s set to be a record year for Hollywood, which was much needed. You hear this talk about how people don’t enjoy the theater anymore, but that’s clearly not the case.

Yes, people do enjoy streaming movies on Netflix from their bedroom, but nothing beats the movie theater experience. We can have our cake and eat it too.

Ralph Breaks The Internet vs Creed II, Who Will Win Thanksgiving Weekend?

Thanksgiving weekend is usually a pretty great time for the box office. Most people are off work, with their families and in the mood to see a flick at the theater.

This year, most people will be choosing between Creed II and Ralph Breaks the Internet.

According to the most recent reports, the sequel to Wreck It Ralph is expected to bring in around $70 million during the upcoming five-day period, and if that happens, it should easily beat Creed II and every other film at the box office.

The second Creed film is expected to bring in around $50 million this weekend, so it would take a small miracle for it to beat Ralph and the gang.

The first Wreck It Ralph film made $49 million during its opening weekend, and then was nominated for an Oscar before bringing in close to $500 million worldwide. You can see why they wanted to make a sequel.

The new Robin Hood film will also be released this weekend, but it’s expected to have a rough time after being absolutely slammed by the critics. It’s currently sitting at 19% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Early Reviews For Creed II Are Starting To Come In, What Are The Critics Saying?

The first ‘Creed‘ film surprised everyone with extremely positive reviews back in 2015. Heck, some people were saying Sylvester Stallone deserved an Oscar nomination for his performance.

Now three years later, Creed II is set to be released, and the early reviews are starting to come in.

And unfortunately, they’re not all that great. Slate’s film critic Sam Adams basically said there’s not enough story to justify this sequel…

“The movie feels like a throwback to a time when the primary purpose of sequels was to squeeze out a little more juice, not build a framework sturdy enough to support any number of future projects. It’s depressing that after Creed’s success, Creed II feels like it’s just a step above a straight-to-video knockoff.”

Damn. Sam went in hard, and he wasn’t the only one. The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy wrote…

“As Rocky II was to Rocky, so is Creed II to its powerhouse progenitor — that is, a pale shadow of its daddy. Slack and unexciting compared to Ryan Coogler’s blisteringly good 2015 reconception of a 1970s icon for modern audiences, this follow-up is an undeniable disappointment in nearly every way, from its dreary homefront interludes to a climactic boxing match that feels far-fetched in the extreme.”

But there are some good reviews out there. Benjamin Lee of The Guardian wrote…

“While it’s not quite the showstopper that its predecessor was, Creed II is still another knockout piece of entertainment… Even though the majority of audience members will be able to predict the film’s trajectory despite an early attempt at a surprise, this has no adverse effect on one’s enjoyment.”

That’s probably one of the more positive reviews out there, and even Benjamin is essentially saying, “Eh. It’s not that bad.”

Looks like it might be a swing and miss for Creed II. You can see for yourself November 21, 2019.

Must Watch Trailer: Michael B. Jordan And Sylvester Stallone Star In Full Trailer For ‘Creed 2’

We have been waiting for this second trailer for months, and we’re happy to report it’s finally here. Michael B. Jordan is back for Creed II, and he looks like an absolutely beast. Honestly, his physique might be the most impressive thing about this trailer.

He put on some muscle because he’s going up against Viktor Drago, the son of Rocky IV antagonist Ivan Drago, who killed Creed’s father, Apollo.

This sequel was directed by Steven Caple Jr. and written by Sylvester Stallone. The first Creed film scored a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made over $160 million at the box office.

Creed II will hit theaters November 21, and it looks like it’s going to be just as good (if not better) than the first film,

Check out the trailer below…

Check Out Michael B. Jordan All Muscled Up In New Images From Upcoming ‘Creed II’

Have you been waiting for this Creed sequel since, well, 20 minutes after watching the original film? We’re in the same boat. For a reboot/continuation of an old franchise, the original Creed movie worked so well. It could have been terrible, but it was actually award-winning.

And now they’re coming back with Creed II. Both Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone have returned for this sequel. Tessa Thompson also returned.

The studio behind the movie released a few images from the set this week. The photos show Michael B. Jordan training with Rocky and walking to the ring with his crew behind him.

“Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.”

Creed II will jab its way inside a theater near you November 21. You will not want to miss it.

‘Creed II’ Has Released Its First Trailer, And It Looks Pretty Great!

The first ‘Creed‘ movie, which is a spin-off of the ‘Rocky‘ franchise, hit theaters back in 2015 and surprised everyone with just how good it was. It had a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and Sylvester Stallone gave one of the better performances of his career.

Now, three years later, they’re back for Creed II. The first trailer was released early Wednesday morning, and it shows a lot of heart, as we’ve come to expect from any movie in the Rocky universe.

The sequel was directed by Steven Caple Jr., and was written by Stallone and Cheo Hodari Coker. Both Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson have returned for this movie.

“Creed II will see Michael B. Jordan return as Adonis Johnson, son of Apollo Creed, to continue his training under Rocky Balboa in order to prep for what’s sure to be a brutal fight against Vitor Drago (Florian Munteanu), the son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren).”

You can watch the trailer below. Creed 2 is expected to hit theaters November 21, 2018. By the way, the first film made over $170 million worldwide against a budget of just $35 million. They’ll be hoping for that same success with the sequel.

Warner Bros. Releases First Poster And Official Synopsis For Creed 2 (PHOTO)

Creed 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2015 film Creed, is scheduled to hit theaters November 21, 2018, which is only five months away now. People were beginning to wonder when Warner Bros. would start promoting the film.

Well, wonder no more. The studio released the first poster, which shows Michael B. Jordan looking all sorts of jacked. He might be in the best shape of his life.

In addition to the poster release, they also released the official synopsis you see below…

“Life has become a balancing act for Adonis Creed. Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight, he is up against the challenge of his life. Facing an opponent with ties to his family’s past only intensifies his impending battle in the ring. Rocky Balboa is there by his side through it all and, together, Rocky and Adonis will confront their shared legacy, question what’s worth fighting for, and discover that nothing’s more important than family.

Creed II is about going back to basics to rediscover what made you a champion in the first place, and remembering that, no matter where you go, you can’t escape your history.”

The first trailer for the movie is expected to be released tomorrow, so we will obviously share that once it hits the internet.

For now, enjoy the poster.
