Ain’t no party like a Disney/Marvel party! The studio is probably still celebrating after Captain America: Civil War brought home a massive $181.8 million during its opening weekend. That number is good enough for the fifth-biggest opening ever.
But this movie isn’t just a hit in the United States. It’s a worldwide smash, and it’s already earned $678.4 million globally, which is just absolutely insane. And the good news is that it should stay strong in its second week, thanks to the strong reviews from critics and fans.
Those numbers are obviously impressive, but you haven’t heard the most impressive stat yet. Last year, Universal set the record with the fastest climb to the $1 billion mark. The studio reached the mark on June 14, thanks to Furious 7 and Jurassic World.
Well, Disney has crushed that record. The studio now holds the record for the fastest climb to $1 billion. It’s a huge number and it’s something the studio should be really proud of. And they still have a number of important films coming later this year.
You have Finding Dory next month, Pete’s Dragon in August, Moana in November, Doctor Strange in November, and Rogue One in December. They are set to have one of the best years in box office history.
It’s going to be fun to see how high they can climb.
Here we go again. Back in March of 2015, Vin Diesel boldly predicted that Furious 7 would be the most powerful film ever and would probably win best picture at the Oscars.
“It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.” He said during an interview with Variety. Obviously, we know that’s not going to happen now because the movie wasn’t even nominated for best picture.
And now, almost a year later, another actor is predicting something that probably won’t happen. During an interview with BBC Radio, Anthony Mackie claimed ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ is Marvel’s best movie ever. He also believes it will be the first superhero film to land a best picture nomination.
“It’s Marvel’s best movie thus far… It’s really, really good. It’s because it’s more of an acting movie than an action movie. I think it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for best picture. You get to see Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans and Scarlett Johannson and Mark Ruffalo and everybody just do really, really good acting.”
The mention of Mark Ruffalo also got a lot of attention because the Hulk isn’t expected to be in Civil War, which made some fans wonder if there might be some special appearance by Ruffalo’s character near the end of the movie.
Mackie clarified his comments during an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers…
“I was giving respect to my fellow actors. I said Marvel movies are so great because they have great actors. The likes of Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., love that guy. People take that to mean that I’m saying this is what the movie is about, and this is in the movie.”
You can watch ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in a theater near you May 6, 2016. We’ll see if Mackie is right about this being the best Marvel movie.
We told you there would be some huge movie trailers being released during the Super Bowl, and we’re happy to report that the amount of awesomeness previewed during the big game exceeded our expectations. It might not have been a great night for football or Chris Martin, but it was certainly a great night for Hollywood.
You can watch all of the Super Bowl movie trailers below. We have Alice Through The Looking Glass, Captain America: Civil War, 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Jungle Book, Deadpool, and a few other surprises.
One of those surprises being a special 30-second preview of Jason Bourne. Matt Damon has returned to his most iconic role, and it’s clear he’s been working hard for this film. Do you see how freaking ripped he is? Damn. How many protein shakes do you think he was drinking a day? Or do you think he was drinking melted pints of ice cream like Ryan Gosling?
Check out all the action below! Which film are you most excited about?
We all know how big the Super Bowl is. It’s less about the actual game being played, and more about the commercials and performances during halftime. It’s an event. One of the biggest events of the year, and there are a lot of companies putting down a ridiculous amount of money for a 30-second commercial.
Prices have hit a record high this year for a 30-second commercial. According to the reports, the price for a 30-second spot is $5 million. What company has that much money to spend on just a single commercial? Well, big studios wanting to promote their upcoming films do.
For some of the blockbusters listed in this article, $5 million is just a drop in their marketing bucket. We know Fox has purchased at least two 30-second commercials, and one of them is a confirmed TV spot for Deadpool. The film is scheduled to be released just five days after the Super Bowl, so it would be silly for Fox not to promote it during the game.
Disney has reportedly purchased “multiple spots,” and one of those spots will almost certainly go to Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War. Disney will probably also promote their upcoming Zootopia animated film, it’s scheduled to hit theaters March 4, 2016. And if you haven’t watched the latest trailer, click on this link to check it out. It’s hilarious.
And while Warner Bros. hasn’t officially purchased a commercial during the Super Bowl, they are co-sponsoring the Doritos fan ad this year, which means they have probably worked out a deal to tease Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice during the big game. I think everyone would be shocked if they didn’t take this opportunity to promote the film.
We’ll find out in less than seven days now! Super Bowl 2016 will air on CBS this Sunday, Feb. 7.
Movie trailers are huge right now. It’s to the point where people will go on YouTube to see how many views a certain trailer has to determine how well the movie might do at the box office. In addition to that, we also see a number of ‘teaser trailers,’ which are basically like the mini-size Blizzard from Dairy Queen. NO ONE WANTS JUST A TABLESPOON OF ICE CREAM!
What were we talking about again? Oh yeah..trailers. The first trailer for Captain America: Civil War hit the internets last week, and it pretty much shocked the world with its awesomeness.
And thanks to a press release from Marvel, we can now say it was a record-breaking trailer. They announced it managed to grab 61 million global views in its first 24 hours. It almost doubled the previous record of 34 million views for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Even Adele is sitting back thinking, “Damn. That’s impressive.”
Just so we’re clear here, these records are only for Marvel movies. The trailer for Star Wars 7 pretty much crushed everyone with its 112 million views in one day.
You can watch the Captain America trailer below. The film hits theaters May 6, 2016. You know, if anyone cares about watching full movies anymore.
