The ninth (and completely unnecessary) installment in the Fast & Furious franchise was originally scheduled to hit theaters April 19, 2019, but it looks like that won’t be happening now.
Universal has announced they will be moving Fast & Furious 9 to April 10, 2020. That’s Good Friday, which bleeds into Easter Weekend, and that weekend has always been kind to the franchise. Furious 7 and Fate of the Furious hold the records for the second and third biggest openings for Easter weekend with $147.1 million and $98.8 million.
Of course, the original release date scheduled for 2019 also falls on Good Friday, so we’re not sure why they decided to push the release date back a year. Maybe they need extra time to figure out what the f**k they’re going to do? How will they continue a story that should have already said, “The end.”
I don’t know, and I’m finding it extremely hard to care. But if you do still care about this franchise, you’ll be happy to know Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez are expected to return.
And you can bet on Diesel saying something like, “THIS MOVIE DESERVES AN OSCAR NOMINATION! IF IT DON’T GET IT, SOMETHING IS SERIOUSLY WRONG!”
