Death Race 2050 Red Band Trailer – Yes! 50 Points for Senior Citizens (Trailer)

Roger Corman and his wife Julie Corman are the producers of Death Race 2050. This is crazy because Corman is the creator of the original movie and is now 90 years old! What a way to go out! That is assuming he doesn’t have one or two more projects under his high waisted belt.

I’m sure he spent countless nights thinking, “if only he could re shoot his classic, using today’s technology. How wonderful it would that be?”. That is exactly what he has done.

While it won’t win for best picture, it might when for Best Film, best film to watch without the wife and kids in the man cave (runner up: John Wick). Nobody has time to explain why hitting humans earns you points but not in the real world. This film will go right to DVD and Blue-ray on January 17th. It will include some special features such as: The making of the film, a behind the scenes look at the cars in the movie, and a featurette on set design, visual style and the costumes.

New Super Intense Trailer for “Silence” – Scorsese’s most challenging film yet.

I consider myself the working man’s movie goer and we consider this site, the working man’s movie site.  What I mean by that is that we are the Dunkin Donuts compared to other movie sites posing as the Starbucks.  I say this (as I often do) so you know that I am aware of my dumbed down approach to movies, even if they are cinematic masterpieces such as this.  You will never get lofty over dramatic descriptions, I basically keep it real.  Here you can expect  comments such as “The camera work was good AF” and things of that nature.

That being said, “Silence” is a film adapted from the novel written by Shusaku Endo.  It follows two Portuguese Jesuit priests (played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) as they go to Japan to find their mentor (Liam Neeson) who Is encountering persecution for his religious beliefs.

The $40 million dollar production was filmed in Taiwan, where they had to recreate 1640 Japan. As you can imagine, this was no small task.

Like most movies, it’s gotten mixed reviews, but Scorsese had a private meeting with Pope Francis and screened it with the hundreds of Jesuits in Rome and received a good response from them; so who really cares about “rotten tomatoes”.

The movie had a limited release on December 23rd and will expand on Golden Globes weekend on January 6th then again over the Martin Luther King Holiday of January 13th.

Watch the trailer….maybe Scorsese can win another Oscar!?! Despite his 12 Noms, he’s only pulled down one for 2006’s “Departed”.

Blade Runner 2049 Teaser Trailer Will Have you Dusting off the Original! (VIDEO)

I’m going to save the “Hollywood Reboot” rant for later.  This is actually a legitimate sequel.  Just the appearance of Harrison Ford will make you grab the 1982 VCR cassette and pop it in….wait… Pop it in what?  Nobody has VCR’s.  It will have you on Amazon Prime ordering the original and watching this on your commute home.

In the quick teaser trailer we know that Ford is reprising his role as ex-cop Rick Deckard.  Ford’s involvement along with Ridley Scott, make this sequel worth the wait.  Besides getting the passion and talent that the first film had, another advantage of the Ford – Scott combination is the ability to attract other top talent.  Besides Ryan Gosling playing the lead, Ada de Armas, Robin Wright and Jared Leto will be rounding out the cast.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film is due to be released on October 17, 2017.

Here is the synopsis that was released with the trailer:

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

Paramount Follows up Movie Trailer with Epic Movie Poster. Is That Bumble Bee Slain? (Poster & Trailer)

Paramount released a new movie poster for the fifth installment of the franchise, entitled: “Transformers: The Last Knight”.
As we learned from the trailer last week, Mark Wahlberg is returning as Cade Yeager and Tyrese is also returning as Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Robert Epps.
Michael Bay is at the helm directing with a script created from Iron Man’s Art Marcum & Matt Holloway.

From the trailer we learned that Optimus Prime and Bumble Bee had beef. It’s not clear if Prime kills Bumble Bee or if the choke slam shown in the trailer was just part of a fight that ends with the two still alive, however this new poster does show a bit of Bumblebee’s arm on the ground. Not cool.
I think it’s safe to say we won’t know for sure until the movie’s release on June 23, 2017.
In case you missed it, here’s the trailer.

NEW TRAILER – Fast 8: The Fate of the Furious – Looks like it’s more of the same. Thank Goodness!

The “Fast” franchise is often overlooked when the great sequels are discussed.  Rocky is always at the forefront of everyone’s list, then there is the Star Wars franchise and even Lethal Weapons.  It’s easy to forget the Fast Franchise because we take it for granted.  We stamp our feet and pout demanding for the next one as soon as the credits are rolling.  Well, pout no more. We have the trailer for Fast 8.

All the mystery is over. The new film will be called The Fate of the Furious and as you can see from the trailer it appears that Dominic Toretto, (Vin Diesel) has turned on the family and now the family is teaming up with Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) to bring the real Dom back!

As with all the Fast movies, if you are not willing to suspend your belief in physics, town and state laws or the law of gravity then you will suck all of the enjoyment out of the franchise.

Following the pattern of the last 5, this has everything a Blockbuster is supposed to. Big name actors, big budget special effects, stunts and fight scenes.   At least from the trailer, it appears that fans of the franchise will not be disappointed.

The Fate of the Furious is due in theaters on April 14, 2017!

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – Looks like Formula has been untouched. Thank God. (Video Trailer)

James Gunn released the trailer today at Comic Con Experience 2016 in São Paulo, Brazil and it’s already racked up 1.4 million views in less than 24 hours.   At least from the feel of the Trailer, it appears that the formula that made Vol 1 a surprising success has been virtually untouched for Volume 2. This is refreshing as we know all too well how Hollywood likes to make things “new and improved”.

The cast appears to be left intact with Chis Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Baby Groot.

Besides the same witty one liners and 70’s classic rock, it looks as if Baby Groot is stepping up; which is good for us but maybe bad for the Universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens May 5, 2017.  Watch the trailer!

OFFICIAL TRAILER: Barry (2016) – The Trailer is Not the Story I Would Expect; It’s Actually Better

I’m not a huge fan of Biopics while the person is still doing what they are famous for doing.  However, this one is different because it focuses on Obama’s early years, before he decided to run for POTUS.

The story takes place primarily in New York in the early 80’s during Obama’s years at Columbia.  Is not so much about Obama, but a biracial man trying to fit into a world that is black or white.  This is 21 year old Barack, and chain smoking, slightly awkward, passionate Barack.  He has a white girlfriend, a not so confident walk (as opposed to the strut we are used to) and plays pick-up basketball.  This is far from the leader of the free world.  This isn’t a story about the Obama we know, but the Obama that became the Obama that we know.

The lead is played by a virtually unknown actor from Australia named Devon Terrell.  He trained with famed Broadway dialect and vocal coach Charlotte Fleck to balance Obama’s accent, walking the line between authentic but not comedic.  As you can see in the trailer, he does a great job.

Directed by Vikram Gandhi, the film received great reviews at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.

It’s scheduled to be released on December 16, 2016 and I can’t wait.  Here is the Trailer!

Angela Basset Signs on to Join Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther

Marvel is assembling quite a cast behind the 29 year old filmmaker.  Personally I’m a fan of all his work, which includes Fruitvale Station and Creed.  Each movie has increased in both star power and budget.  Fruitvale Station had a budget of $900K, Creed had a budget around $35 million and Black Panther is rumored to have a budget in the hundreds of millions.

Bassett signed on to play Ramonda.

For those not completely familiar with the story line Black Panther is actually T’Challa.  T’Challa is the king of the African nation of Wakanda.  Wakanda is the place where Captain America gets the material for his shield.  You see what they did there?

If you look at the Captain America Civil War trailer you can actually see Black Panther in action.

[youtube id=”KPDqb45P2Mg” width=”633″ height=”356″]

Ramonda, Bassett’s character is the third wife of T’Challa’s father, T’Chaka.  Basset joins an amazing cast of black actors which include: Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Forest Whitker, Michael B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on February 16, 2018.

WATCH TRAILER: Dog Eat Dog – Nicolas Cage Might Be Selecting Good Scripts Again!

This is a film that has not been on everyone’s radar.  Although I’m a huge Nicolas Cage fan, let’s face it, he hasn’t been the best at picking scripts.  Dog Eat Dog might actually be a step in the right direction.  Directed and written by Paul Schrader, this movie just looks like it’s going to be a good time.  The trailer gives you the feel of classic Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s Eleven, Out of Sight) mixed with a small touch of Tarantino.

Aside from William Defoe the supporting cast includes Louisa Krause, Magi Avila, Christopher Matthew Cook and Paul Schrader himself.  The premise is an old but good one; ex-cons wanting one last score before they retire for good.  If done right, that story never gets old.

But wait…before you get too excited, Dog Eat Dog has not yet secured US distribution.  It’s all done, ready to go, but consequently there is no release date.  I guess this is a real teaser trailer.

‘Kickboxer: Vengeance’ Official Trailer – Not Too Bad for a 55 Year Old Van Damme

I’m not a huge fan of remakes…or at least 10 years ago I wasn’t.  It appears everything is a remake now, so if I ever wanted to go to the movies to see anything, remakes are something that I needed to get over. Real quick.

“Kickboxer Vengeance” is being called a “reboot”.   It’s the same premise as the original, but just a little different.  Now don’t confuse “Kickboxer” with “Bloodsport”.  They both stared Van Damme however “Bloodsport” went more mainstream.

In the original “Kickboxer” film, the main character had to learn Muay Thai to avenge his brother’s death.  In “Kick Boxer Vengeance”, you have exactly the same scenario.  The good part is the trainer is now a 55 year old Jean Claude Van Damme, who is still in great shape (unlike Steven Segal).

In short, brother gets killed, remaining brother gets trained by brother’s mentor, goes to Thailand to kick butt against a bad ass villain, master foe name Tong Po.  That’s all the plot I really need.  Let’s face it, we came for the fight scenes.

Directed by John Stockwell, Alain Moussi has the starring role and 6’6” David Bautista is our villain.  The movie is set for a US release of September 2, 2016.
