Robert De Niro hasn’t had the best of luck in the comedy genre lately. Yeah, Last Vegas, scored a few positive reviews, but let’s be honest here. If the movie didn’t have Michael Douglas, Morgan Freeman and Robert De Niro, who would have actually spent $13 to go see a watered-down version of The Hangover?
But there is some good news. It looks like Robert De Niro has a chance to redeem himself. The 71-year-old actor is in early talks to play a dirty former Army general, who believes his grandson (Zac Efron) is about to marry the wrong woman.
In order to prevent the wedding from happening, Robert’s character tricks his grandson into driving down to Florida for spring break. The script certainly sounds promising, especially when you consider it was written by the talented John Phillips.
The film was originally titled, ‘Dirty Grandpa’ but was recently changed to ‘Driving Dick Kelly.’ A few years ago, when the project was at Universal, Michael Douglas and Jeff Bridges were the names being attached to the project.
But now the adult comedy is being shopped at the Toronto International Film Festival by QED. Barry Josephson is reportedly producing the project.
We will definitely be looking out for more news about this film. I mean, after Zac Efron’s Robert De Niro party in Neighbors, this film has to be made.
