You may have missed a little disaster thriller film titled ‘Greenland‘ which was released through video on demand back in December of 2020. The movie, which stars Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, was supposed to be released inside theaters, but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed it several times.
So they decided to just put it out there, and the strategy worked because it’s slowly been growing in popularity. You can now watch it on HBO Max and Amazon Prime, and I’m surprised to say this…but it’s worth it.
The movie certainly isn’t logical, and there are some plot holes, but damn it’s ridiculously entertaining. And no one does the disaster film better than Butler. It’s his niche.
We say all this to report the delightful news that the team is returning for a sequel. Butler and Baccarin will return, along with the core filmmaking team, meaning the director and writer.
In a continuation of the story, the Garrity family, who survive a near-extinction level event when an interstellar comet hits Earth, must leave the safety of the Greenland bunker and embark on a perilous journey across the decimated frozen wasteland of Europe to find a new home.
Sounds good to me, cause I’ll admit, I was kinda wondering what the hell they were supposed to do in Greenland. I mean, how were these people going to grow food and rebuild when the rest of the planet is presumably destroyed?
Looks like we’ll find out. Not sure when the movie is expected to go into production, but we’ll keep you posted.
