Will James Gunn Return For Guardians Of The Galaxy 3? Check Out His Answer Inside

Filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues in Atlanta, but some fans are already looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Fans of the franchise are just like me during breakfast. I’ll be in the middle of eating my bowl of cereal, thinking, “Damn. Lunch sounds really good right now.”

Director James Gunn managed to clear a few minutes from his busy schedule to host a live Q&A with fans on his Facebook page. He answered several interesting questions during the event, but most interesting was his response to fans asking about a possible third film in the series.

In his answer, he revealed Marvel has already spoken with him about the idea, but he’s more focused on Guardians of the Galaxy 2 right now.

“Right now I really am just concerned with doing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. I’m not sure what I’m going to do after this… Marvel has talked to me about continuing on. I’m not sure if that’s what I want to do or if that’s not what I want to do. I really just want to make Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 the greatest possible movie that I can, and something that’s as honest and sincere and true as it can possibly be.”

Sounds like an honest answer. We have seen directors sign up for these huge franchises in the past, and then they end up getting bored with them 2-3 films in. Directors are always looking for something new. If Gunn does return for a third movie, we have to imagine he will take a longer break between films this time.

In any event, Gunn also told fans that production on this second film is expected to end in June. Not bad considering they just started 20 days ago.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters May 5, 2017.
