What Movie Should You Watch This Weekend? ‘The Nice Guys’ Is Looking Like Your Best Choice

You know a movie is going to be hilarious when the press tour is funnier than your average comedy film. We shared with you the hilarious therapy sessions between Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe last month. But that’s just a little piece of the package.

Nearly every interview featuring Ryan and Russell has been incredible. You can click this link to watch their funny bit on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. And you can watch the video at the top of this page. It’s one of the latest promos and it features producer Joel Silver insulting both actors and accusing them of not doing enough to promote the project.

But okay, just because the cast is funny during interviews and skits, doesn’t guarantee they’re going to be funny for almost two hours on the big screen.

You want to know what the critics are saying, right? The critics are loving the movie, and some of them are already calling for a sequel. The Nice Guys has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Nick Spake from flickreel.com believes it might be the best buddy cop movie since Lethal Weapon, which makes sense considering writer/director Shane Black is responsible for both films.

“Almost thirty years ago, Shane Black wrote the screenplay for Lethal Weapon, one of the greatest buddy cop movies ever made. The Nice Guys, which Black directed and co-wrote with Anthony Bagarozzi, is quite possibly the best buddy cop movie since the original Lethal Weapon.”

Sadly, the film is going up against Neighbors 2 and Angry Birds this weekend, so it’s probably not going to take home the top spot at the box office.

But it’s the movie I’ll be watching this weekend, and you should join me.
