Steven Soderbergh don’t need no fancy cameras to make a movie. His last film, ‘Unsane‘ was shot entirely on an iPhone 7 Plus (with added effects, of course) and made for under $2 million. It made nearly $15 million at the box office and received mostly positive reviews from critics.
Now Soderbergh is back behind the iPhone once again for the upcoming sports drama, High Flying Bird. The behind-the-scenes basketball drama was once again shot on an iPhone 7 Plus.
“‘High Flying Bird’ is written by Oscar winner Tarell Alvin McCraney, best known for co-writing ‘Moonlight’ with Barry Jenkins. Andre Holland stars as a sports agent who must find a way to pitch a controversial business opportunity to a rookie basketball player during an NBA lockout. The supporting cast includes Zazie Beetz, Zachary Quinto, Kyle MacLachlan, Bill Duke, Sonja Sohn, and ‘Stranger Things’ breakout Caleb McLaughlin.”
The movie is premiering at the Slamdance Film Festival and will then be released on Netflix February 8th.
You should definitely give it a watch once it’s released. It looks pretty special. Check out the trailer below…
