There once was a time when Netflix’s original programming was 99% romantic comedies, stand-up and shows for kids. But now that their original content is more established, they are taking more chances. They have been trying to find a hit in the action world for the past year or two, and it looks like the upcoming sci-fi thriller Extinction could be the hit they’re looking for.
The movie is directed by Ben Young and stars Michael Peña as a working class father of the future who is dealing with recurring nightmares of destruction by an unknown force.
Deadline gives us more details:
“When his unwanted nightmares begin to affect his relationship with his family, he soon realizes they may be the key to a horrible reality, as a relentless alien attack begins to destroy the Earth.”
Sounds interesting enough, right? I must say, the trailer is pretty good. The sci-fi genre is not my favorite, but I’m looking forward to checking this film out. Although, Netflix only purchased worldwide distribution rights after Universal pulled the movie from its original release date. That could be a bad sign.
Extinction will be released on Netflix July 27, 2018.
