The first trailer for Independence Day 2 hit the internet on Sunday. As everyone prepares their minds for certain explosion later this week with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 20th Century Fox decided to pop in and give everyone a premature mind explosion.

The trailer you see below was released during Fox’s broadcast of the game between the Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins. 20 years of waiting and we finally have our sequel wish. It honestly feels like we’re dreaming or something. It doesn’t feel real.

Sadly, we still have roughly six months to wait before the film is released June 24, 2016. But at least we have this trailer to watch over and over again. Obviously the first trailer avoids giving too much away regarding the details of the new story. Most of the trailer is spent explaining what has been happening on Earth since the first invasion 20 years ago.

As expected, Will Smith did not return for this sequel, but we know from the trailer that Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox have returned.

Check out the official synopsis and trailer below…

From director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin, 1996’s Independence Day shattered opening weekend and total box office records, becoming the year’s top-grossing film. It also became the first movie in history to gross over $500m internationally. But Independence Day was just the beginning. We always knew they were coming back. After that film redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter in the Independence Day universe delivers a global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
