Terrence Malick has already had a pretty successful career in Hollywood. His 2011 film, The Tree of Life, which starred Brad Pitt and Sean Penn, won several awards and was nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Malick also directed ‘Badlands‘ way back in 1973. The crime drama starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek is still considered to be one of the best movies of all time.
Now Malick is making a return to Hollywood with the upcoming historical drama, A Hidden Life.
A Hidden Life stars August Diehl in the true story of WWII conscientious objector Franz Jägerstätter, who was imprisoned after refusing to fight for the Third Reich. The supporting cast includes Valerie Pachner, Matthias Schoenaerts, and the late actors Michael Nyqvist and Bruno Ganz.
The movie premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and received mostly positive reviews from critics. Most agree it’s the best thing he’s made since 2011’s Tree of Life.
It’s expected to hit theaters on December 13, 2019, just in time for awards season.
