Lena Waithe has slowly been climbing the ranks in Hollywood. She started off as a staff writer on the TV show ‘Bones‘. From there, she won a Primetime Emmy Award for writing an episode of ‘Master of None‘ and then she created her own series on Showtime titled, The Chi.
This all happening in the past four years, by the way.
Now Waithe is getting ready to release her first feature film. ‘Queen and Slim‘ stars Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith. The movie was originally described as a “dramatic thriller with romantic undertones that follows a black couple on a first date who are pulled over by a police officer, who they then kill in self-defense.”
During Cinemacon, Waithe called the film “protest art” and explained it’s designed to get people talking…
It’s meant to get people talking. The film is not made to give the audience answers, but instead to ask questions and show what it looks like to be black and in love while the world is burning all around you.
Queen and Slim will hit theaters November 27, 2019. Check out the trailer below…[mashshare]
