You all should know by now that my love for Richard Linklater could be classified as unhealthy. It all started a few years ago when I realized several of my favorites movies had a Linklater connection: Slacker, Dazed and Confused, Before Sunrise, School of Rock.
And then my admiration for the director/writer hit a new record last year with the release of Boyhood. The best film of 2014. His style might be considered boring by some people, but I love every single thing about it.
This is why I am still excited for his latest film, Everybody Wants Some, even though the first trailer doesn’t look that impressive. You can watch the trailer at the bottom of this page. It has a few bright moments, but for the most part it lacks that Linklaterness we all know and love.
But we must remember it’s just one trailer. A great trailer doesn’t guarantee a great film, and a bad trailer doesn’t guarantee a bad film. Everybody Wants Some has been described as the spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused, and that’s reason enough to give it a chance. The film will premiere in March at SXSW 2016 in Austin, Texas. It’s scheduled to hit theaters April 15.
“Set in the world of 1980s college life, Everybody Wants Some is a comedy, directed and written by Richard Linklater, that follows a group of college baseball players as they navigate their way through the freedoms and responsibilities of unsupervised adulthood. Get ready for the best weekend ever.”
