If you’re a film nerd like me, and you’ve been looking up the forecast for the upcoming awards season, you’ve probably seen a film titled ‘Roma‘ on several lists.
The film, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, features Yalitza Aparicio as a live-in housekeeper in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City. Several people believe Aparicio will receive an Oscar nomination for her performance.
“‘Roma,’ which won the Golden Lion after its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, has been selected by Mexico as the country’s foreign-language submission for the 91st Academy Awards. The film, produced by Esperanto Filmoj and Participant Media, is also considered a strong contender for a best picture nomination.”
This will be Cuaron’s follow-up to the 2013 sci-fi thriller, Gravity. Roma will have a limited run inside theaters on November 21 before being released on Netflix December 14.
