We don’t know why this news is so surprising, considering America takes foreign films all the time and remakes them, but for some reason we didn’t think Forrest Gump would be the top pick for the scenario in reverse.
Aarmi Kahn, one of India’s biggest movie stars, revealed on Thursday that he will produce and star in a local-language adaptation of Forrest Gump.
He unveiled the news during a Mumbai press conference to cut the cake on his 54th birthday (yeah, he’s that big there). The Hindi-language film will be an adaptation titled Laal Singh Chadda, which will be produced by Viacom’s local studio Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Films. Paramount licensed the rights.
It should be interesting to watch this film develop. Forrest Gump was a huge hit here in the states. It won six Oscars, including the award for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director.
Will it have the same success in India? We’ll find out soon enough.
