Wow. Some people like to say the spec market is dead, but screenwriter Crosby Selander is proving that’s not the case.
His debut script, Bring Me Back, sparked a bidding war in Hollywood and on Friday, Legendary Entertainment beat out everyone else with a seven-figure bid.
The deal closed on Friday night, and now Selander’s life has changed forever.
Selander is a New York based writer, director, and producer. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Selander lived abroad for the first decade of his life before his family settled in Connecticut in the 1990s. He did his undergraduate work at New York University, and received his MFA from Carnegie Mellon University where he was the recipient of a Shubert Fellowship.
As mentioned above, this is his debut script. It’s pretty insane to land a seven-figure deal on any script, let alone your debut script!
Details surrounding this project are hard to come by, but we do know it’s described as an epic love story. If I were to guess, based on the name alone, it might involve death in some way? Bring Me Back, you know? Trying to bring the love of your life back…I don’t know.
Anyway, congrats to Selander. This is a huge deal, and who knows, maybe this deal will help other writers in the future.
