This post contains no spoilers, but it might contain a lot of disappointment. On Monday, we told fans who were looking forward to watching ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ that they could stop worrying. The lucky fans who attended the New York premiere of the film were sharing their thoughts on Twitter, and they were extremely positive.

They were saying things like, “Batman v Superman was amazing, better than Man of Steel,” and one Twitter user even said, “No movie this year will top Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”

Those positive reviews got everyone excited, but unfortunately the critics have stepped in to crash our party. With over 60 reviews counted, the film currently sits at a 40% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s not terrible, but it’s certainly not “amazing” and “best movie of the year” material.

What’s the problem? Why are over 50% of critics giving Batman v Superman a rotten rating? Several critics have pointed out that the film tries too hard to set up the future of DC Comics films. This results in a confusing mess that has some critics saying things like, “No major blockbuster in years has been this incoherently structured,” and the convoluted plot “will hurt your brain.”

But it’s not all bad. There are critics who enjoyed the movie. Richard Roeper gave it a mostly positive review…

“When it sings, Dawn of Justice is a wonder. When it drags, it still looks good and offers hints of a better scene just around the corner.”

Looks like it will still be worth the ticket, but it might not be worth fighting the weekend crowds for. You could probably wait until Monday to see this one.
