If you’ve been following the movie world recently, there is a decent chance you heard about this odd ‘Crocodile Dundee‘ sequel featuring Danny McBride and Chris Hemsworth. This sequel had a website, social media accounts and even an official teaser trailer.
But sadly, it looks like it’s all one big hoax. In this alleged sequel, McBride was going to play Dundee’s obnoxious American son, which invites all kinds of hilariousness. I mean, the 40 second teaser above had me laughing out loud, and there were only 3 or 4 lines of dialogue spoken.
According to a report from ScreenCrush, The Brisbane Times confirmed that this project is actually an elaborate Super Bowl promotional push for the Tourism Australia campaign.
“Tourism Australia did a fine job putting the whole thing together, but there were a few telltale signs that Dundee wasn’t a legit movie: It’s highly unlikely that a movie this big could’ve been made in secret, for one. And the director credited for the film is Steve Rogers, an award-winning commercial director who’s helmed ads for Nike, Old Spice and Audi. We’ll have to wait until the Super Bowl to see if Tourism Australia’s ads succeed in inspiring us to visit the land down under.”
Well, damn. I mean, I’m all for clever Super Bowl ads, but this one was too clever. I’m legit disappointed that this isn’t a feature. Maybe this will convince a studio to develop the project, though. As crazy as it sounds…it just might work.
