The incredibly talented Heath Ledger passed away nine years ago. Today would have been his 38th birthday, and to mark the special day, Spike TV released a trailer for their upcoming documentary I Am Heath Ledger.

In the documentary, they combine never before seen footage from Ledger’s personal video collection with interviews featuring his famous friends and colleagues.

His agent, Steve Alexander, is featured in the trailer. He speaks about Heath’s love/hate relationship with acting, “He kind of almost pulled out of every movie he ever ended up doing.”

There will be several ways you can watch this doc. It will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23, then it will be released in select theaters May 3 before debuting exclusively on Spike TV May 17.

You can check out the trailer and synopsis below…

“Told through excerpts of his greatest performances, interviews with friends and family (including Ben Mendelsohn, Naomi Watts, Ang Lee, and Ben Harper), and the lens of his own camera, I Am Heath Ledger is an intimate celebration of the actor, artist, and icon. An artist of exceptional depth and courage, Ledger was equally talented behind the camera. This stirring documentary paints a rich portrait of one of the great artists of his generation.”
