‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ Opens With A Superb Thursday Night Preview

Another superhero film is hitting the box office this weekend. The Taika Waititi-directed ‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ is hitting a theater near you right as we speak, and while the critics seem somewhat mixed on it, the general audience appears to dig it, at least so far.

It has an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with most of those ratings coming in last night following the Thursday night previews.

The movie brought in an outstanding $29 million in its Thursday night previews, which is the fifth highest for an MCU movie, and the 13th highest in history. It’s the second biggest Thursday launch of 2022, only behind the most recent Doctor Strange, which managed to bring $36 million.

The superhero movie, billed as a rom-com between Hemsworth’s Thor and his on-again, off-again love interest Jane Foster, played by Natalie Portman, is projected to earn between $145 million to $155 million in its opening weekend. Some estimates even go as high as $170 million.

If it reaches the $170 million mark, it would easily become one of the highest debuts of the past couple years. Of course, it’s yet to be seen if it actually reaches $170 million.

For context, the 2017 film, Thor: Ragnarok, opened to around $123 million, and ended up making an impressive $853 million worldwide.
