MTV might receive a lot of hate right now, but there was a time when the network was the hippest thing around. The first 10 years of MTV’s existence were unlike any other in television history. That’s what the 2011 biography, I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution, is all about. It focuses on the early years of the groundbreaking channel.
Well, we’re happy to report the book is getting the adaptation it deserves, and we know it’s going to be awesome because A24 is involved. They will be reteaming with filmmaker James Ponsoldt for the third time. Ponsoldt previously worked with A24 on The Spectacular Now and The End of the Tour. Both of those films are great, so we see no reason why this MTV project won’t be as well.
There is a lot of material to work with. They could probably split this into multiple films if they really wanted to. Ponsoldt is extremely excited about this project because he grew up during MTV’s prime.
“As a child of the 1980s, MTV had a massive impact on me, and I’m so excited to again be working with my friends at A24 in exploring the storied early years of the groundbreaking channel.”
This news is still fresh, so we don’t have a scheduled release date to share with you at the moment. But as always, we’ll keep you posted.
