‘Field of Dreams’ is perhaps the most beloved baseball movie in history. It stars Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones, as most great baseball movies do.
The film was released way back in 1989, but kids today are watching it with their parents.
Major League Baseball is looking to capitalize on the movie’s success by hosting a major league game at the field site where the movie was filmed.
The special game will take place next August between the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
Staged with the help of Universal Studios, which distributed ‘Field of Dreams,’ the league will begin construction on a temporary 8,000-seat ballpark on the film’s Dyersville farm site next week.
Parts of the field, such as the shape of the outfield and bullpens outside the center field fence, will pay tribute to the White Sox’s former home field, Chicago’s Comiskey Park. Fans will be able to make their way to the ballpark through a cornfield pathway, and the right field wall will be decorated with windows to showcase the cornfields surrounding the ballpark.
I know it’s a gimmick, but it’s a gimmick that is working on me. In fact, I want to see this a few times per season. Give every team a chance to play there.
Tickets for this game are not available to purchase yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
