We are finally getting some details on ‘The Sopranos‘ prequel movie. We now know the title will be ‘Newark‘ and it’s expected to hit theaters September 25, 2020.

That release date is 13 years after the HBO series came to an end. The cast for this prequel will include Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Alessandro Nivola and Vera Farmiga.

Michael Gandolfini, the son of the late ‘Sopranos’ star James Gandolfini, will portray a younger version of his father’s famous character, Tony Soprano, in the film. Other characters from the show may also appear in the prequel.

The creator of the ridiculously successful series, David Chase, co-wrote the script for this prequel with Lawrence Konner. It’s rumored that this film will be set around the Newark riots in July 1967. Alan Taylor will direct the movie, which makes sense considering he directed nine episodes of the original show and has worked on Game of Thrones.

We’ll keep you posted on this prequel as more information is released.
