The Saw Franchise Goes Over $1 Billion Globally Thanks To Decent Performance From ‘Spiral’

The horror film franchise ‘Saw‘ has reason to celebrate this week. In total, the franchise has made over $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

This coming after the latest installment, Spiral, earned another $4.5 million in North America and nearly $3 million overseas. Prior to the release of ‘Spiral’ the franchise stood at around $978 million at the box office, so this latest entry has earned over $20 million so far.

‘Spiral’ certainly hasn’t had impressive numbers at the box office. It also performed rather terribly with critics, but still, you have to imagine the studio is happy.

After all, it was made on a $20 million budget. Every ‘Saw’ film has been made on a modest budget, especially when compared to how much it’s made at the box office throughout the past 16 years.

James Wan and Leigh Whannell created the ‘Saw’ franchise, revolving around the mysterious and disturbing Jigsaw Killer, who puts his victims through deadly games to test their will to live. It kicked off with 2004’s ‘Saw,’ which earned a massive $103 million worldwide from a $1.2 million budget.
