The ‘Minecraft’ Movie Has A Release Date, But It’s Not Until 2022!

Okay, so maybe not everything in Hollywood is moving at a rapid pace. We just got done marveling at how quickly Jennifer Lopez’s Hustlers‘ film is moving, but now we must show you the opposite side of Hollywood. The incredibly slow and tedious side.

We knew there was going to be a ‘Minecraft‘ movie months ago when it was announced that the film was going to be written and directed by Peter Sollett, the filmmaker behind Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist.

For the past few months, there had been silence coming from the creators of Minecraft on the movie, but now they are sharing more information.

According to the reports, the movie is set to be released on March 4, 2022. That’s right. Three years away.

It turns out that making a live-action, full-length feature film is really complicated! Since we’re a game developer first, making a movie will be new and very exciting. And while the movie has to be different from the game (otherwise, you’d be in for an infinite movie in very low resolution) one thing will definitely be the same.

We want to make the movie — just as we make the game — for you. We’re inspired by countless things, but none as much as the incredible stuff our community creates in ‘Minecraft’ every day.

Will Minecraft still be as popular in three years? It seems like a bit of a risk to schedule something so far in advance, although, Minecraft doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. It’s still one of the most popular games out there. As of 2018, there were over 91 million people playing the game monthly. That’s a lot of people.
