We told you last week that ‘The Invisible Man‘ was set up to have a successful weekend at the box office, thanks to great reviews from critics and positive word of mouth.
Early tracking reports suggested the horror flick would take home between $20 and $30 million, and those reports were accurate.
The movie made $29 million in North America during its opening weekend, which was more than enough to take the top spot at the box office.
Overseas, it made just over $20 million, which means it made nearly $50 million during its first weekend. Not bad, considering it was made for just under $10 million.
The film, which was also produced by Blumhouse, has earned critical praise and pulled in a B+ CinemaScore (great for a horror film). That’s an excellent start, and I would not be surprised if Universal next asked Whannell to either make an Invisible Man sequel or tackle a different Universal monster.
For those wondering, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog‘ came in at number two at the box office, bringing in an additional $16 million in its third weekend. It’s made over $260 million worldwide.
