It’s been 15 years since the original (US version) of The Grudge was released. The film was slammed by critics, but still made nearly $190 million at the box office against a budget of just $10 million.
Now over a decade later, Hollywood has decided to reboot this horror franchise.
Nicolas Pesce is directing this reboot, which is a bit surprising. He’s a pretty talented filmmaker, so it’s interesting he decided to take on a franchise like this, but maybe that’s a good sign?
He spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the film…
The beauty of The Grudge franchise, both the American and Japanese iterations, is it’s an anthology series. Every movie is a different story of different characters having different interactions with this curse. In today’s age where we’re remaking everything, I thought it would be fun to dive into The Grudge universe where we don’t have to remake anything, but rather a new chapter in this canon.
This reboot stars Betty Gilpin, John Cho, and Andrea Riseborough. It’s expected to hit theaters January 3, 2020.[mashshare]
