Bo Burnham is one talented dude. He started out in his teens making silly songs on YouTube, then he transformed into one of the top stand-up comedians in the country, and now he’s one of the top filmmakers in the country.
His feature film directorial debut, Eighth Grade, was a huge success in 2018. The coming-of-age dramedy scored a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made my top 5 best films of 2018 list…for anyone who cares.
I have no problem saying it was one of the best movies released last year, but for some reason, the Academy failed to recognize the movie. Even though Burnham received a ‘Best Original Screenplay’ nomination for just about every other awards show out there, he did not receive an Oscars nom.
But you know what? He probably doesn’t care at this point, ’cause he just took home the award for Best Original Screenplay at the 2019 Writers Guild Awards. He beat out legends in the game like Alfonso Cuaron, Adam McKay, and Peter Farrelly.
Safe to say, he was a little surprised…
