Joss Whedon Will Direct A Solo ‘Batgirl’ Movie, We Got The Details Inside!

Well, this is exciting. There are multiple reports flying out of Hollywood, and they’re all saying the same thing. Joss Whedon is nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl movie for Warner Bros.

Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reportedly made a lot of progress with the project this month. It’s all happening kinda fast right now, so there hasn’t been a lot of information released.

Batgirl first appeared in DC Comics back in 1967, and even though she’s one of the most popular superheroes, she’s never gotten her own movie. That’s changing now.

Another interesting thing about this move is the fact that Whedon will be leaving the Marvel Universe to work with the DC Extended Universe. As most of you know, Whedon wrote and directed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

In addition to this new Batgirl project, Warner Bros.’ DC Universe is also developing a sequel to Suicide Squad, as well as a spin-off featuring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn character. You also have ‘The Batman‘ film with Ben Affleck coming up as well.

We’ll keep you posted as more information is released about this Batgirl solo film.

It’s Official: Director Of ‘Cloverfield’ Will Direct The Upcoming Solo Batman Film, Ben Affleck Still Set To Star

Ever since Ben Affleck announced he would be stepping down as the director of the upcoming solo Batman film, we heard rumors that Matt Reeves would step in and take his place.

Well, Warner Bros. has now confirmed those rumors. Reeves, the director behind Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will direct the next Batman movie.

They also confirmed that the title will be ‘The Batman,’ which is a bit surprising because it seemed like that was just the working title.

One interesting thing about the press release from Warner Bros. is that Affleck’s name is not mentioned. It makes you wonder if there was something to that “Affleck wants out” rumor we reported earlier this month.

But insiders say Affleck is still set to star. Nothing has changed yet. The relationship Affleck has with the studio appears to be damaged right now, but maybe things will settle down now that Reeves has officially joined the project.

Reeves revealed in his press release that he has been a fan of Batman since he was a child…

“I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”

Didn’t See This Coming: Mel Gibson In Talks To Direct Suicide Squad 2

It’s official, Mel Gibson is being welcomed back into mainstream Hollywood after the success of his latest film, Hacksaw Ridge. The director, who was kinda pushed out of Hollywood following his anti-Semitic rant, has managed to keep his mouth shut and focus on the arts.

And it’s working out well for him. Warner Bros. is currently in talks with Gibson to take over the Suicide Squad franchise from David Ayer.

There are a few other directors being looked at by the studio, but sources say it’s Gibson’s job to lose. This news is a bit surprising because Gibson has made it clear in the past that he has no interest in directing a comic book movie.

Sources say the main thing pulling Gibson in is the talented cast. The first film starred Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto.

The original film received mixed reviews from critics and fans, but it did extremely well at the box office. It made over $700 million at the box office, which basically guaranteed a sequel.

We’ll keep you posted as more information comes out. We’re still trying to figure out how we should feel about this.

Ben Affleck Gives Another Update On His Batman Standalone Film, And Also Throws Shade At WB?

Fans of Ben Affleck’s Batman will probably hate and love this update. Hate because it doesn’t seem like it is any closer to getting made, and love because Affleck is really taking his time to make sure he creates something special.

During a recent live chat with The New York Times, the 44-year-old actor/writer/director was asked to provide an update for his upcoming Batman standalone film.

He explained that he’s trying to take a smarter approach. Instead of building something around a deadline, he wants to build something around a great script, which is how it’s supposed to work.

“I’m a real believer in not doing, not reverse engineering projects to meet a window or a date, but rather like when you get the right story or you get the right idea or you get the right thing, then you make the movie. And so that’s what we’re doing, and I’m hoping to get that done and spending a lot of time on that, but I’m also working on other stuff. And if I could, if I can find it right then there’s nothing I’d love more than to direct a standalone, you know, iconic great Batman movie.”

And that “reverse engineering” comment could be a shot at Warner Bros. The studio has been accused of doing that exact thing with its Justice League franchise. Instead of making you fall in love with the individual characters and building their stories separately, they’re doing the opposite by throwing them in one giant pot at the same time.

That’s fine if all you care about is making a deadline and releasing a new film every year. But if you care about the actual story, it doesn’t work.

We might have to wait a few years for Affleck’s Batman movie, but we’re confident it will be worth the wait.

Hollywood Plans To Ruin Your Childhood Again, Warner Bros Developing New Willy Wonka Movie

wonkk

Remember the golden ticket? Well, it’s not golden anymore. It’s cigarette-stained yellow and if you find it, your only prize is a kick in the nuts by an angry, unemployed Oompa Loompa.

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the Willy Wonka IP from the Roald Dahl estate, and they are developing a new film centered around the classic character. The reports claim the studio has been fighting hard for the rights all year and were finally able to close the deal earlier this fall.

Screenwriter Simon Rich (Secret Life of Pets) will be writing the script. The film will reportedly focus on Wonka and his early adventures. So watch out for a teen version of Wonka played by Justin Bieber.

As most of you know, Wonka has been featured on the big screen twice before. Once with Johnny Depp in 2005, and the original/best 1971 version starring the late Gene Wilder.

I guess the only good news is that this isn’t a sequel, although, it sounds like it might be classified as a prequel, which has the potential to be even worse.

But hey, I’m just being a cynical douchebag. At least the project has a good studio and writer behind it. Maybe it won’t be so bad. We’ll keep you posted as more information is released.

Say Whaaat? Shia LaBeouf Reveals He Almost Starred In ‘Suicide Squad’ — Find Out Which Character He Was Going To Play!

David Ayer’sSuicide Squad‘ got slammed by critics, but it still managed to break several box office records. So far, the film has grossed almost $700 million worldwide against a budget of $175 million, so we’re sure the studio is pleased with the results, even if it wasn’t a success with the critics like most people thought it would be.

One thing we know for sure is that the film changed so much during filming and in post-production. There were too many cooks in the kitchen, and that’s probably why the movie received a mixed reaction.

Big changes were happening even in the early days of this project. In a new interview with Variety, Shia LaBeouf revealed Ayer asked him to take on the role of Lieutenant GQ Edwards in the movie. “The character was different initially,” he explained.

“Then Will [Smith] came in, and the script changed a bit. That character and Tom [Hardy‘s] character [later played by Joel Kinnaman] got written down to build Will up.”

But even then he was willing to take the part. He had a meeting with Warner Bros., and they basically told him they couldn’t trust him because he was too crazy.

“I don’t think Warner Bros. wanted me. I went in to meet, and they were like, ‘Nah, you’re crazy. You’re a good actor, but not this one.’ It was a big investment for them.”

Scott Eastwood ended up playing GQ Edwards. LaBeouf isn’t too upset about not getting picked for the role though. The one role he can’t get over is Robert Ford in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

He said he wanted the role so f–king bad, but admits Casey Affleck played the character perfectly.

“The guy is f–king brilliant. You look at it and you go, ‘No way I could have pulled it off.’ But I wanted it so f–king bad. We all chased it. The whole generation went after that. Ben Foster is in the room. Casey. Everyone did.”

It’s Official, Lady Gaga And Bradley Cooper’s ‘A Star Is Born’ Is Happening, Get The Details Inside!

coo

It’s been a long road for this A Star Is Born project. A road so long that you begin to question your sanity. Will it ever end? Is it all a dream? Why are there no other cars on the road?

Warner Bros. remake of the classic film has been on life support for what feels like years now. At one point, Leonardo DiCaprio and Beyonce were set to star and Clint Eastwood was attached as the director. Unfortunately, that strange combination didn’t work out, and the project was left for dead.

Bradley Cooper entered the room to save the day though. After both Eastwood and Beyonce dropped out, Cooper announced he would both star and direct the remake. That’s when Lady Gaga joined the project, and now Warner Bros. has finally decided to move forward. It will be Cooper’s directorial debut.

This will be a challenge for both Cooper and Lady Gaga. Starring in your directorial debut sounds super stressful, and Gaga faces the challenge of trying to match the performances by Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. It’s not going to be easy.

The 30-year-old singer/actress went on her Twitter account to let her fans know how excited she is…

Filming is scheduled to begin in California next year. According to the reports, Lady Gaga will be composing and writing new songs to perform.

Warner Brothers president of Creative Development and WW Production Greg Silverman made it clear that everyone is excited to watch this project develop…

“For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director. We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home—Warner Bros.—and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born.”

Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons Is Moving To The Big Screen For Magic Comedy Film ‘Man-Witch’

parr

Jim Parsons has rested comfortably for a decade now in the land of laugh tracks and social awkwardness on The Big Bang Theory. His character, Sheldon Cooper, is probably the most popular character on the show, and the success of the series has made Parsons an extremely wealthy man.

But now the 43-year-old actor is ready to step out of his comfort zone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Parsons has agreed to take on a pretty big project for Warner Bros.

He’s expected to take the lead role in a comedy film titled Man-Witch. He will also help develop the movie and work behind the camera as a producer. This project might sound familiar to some of you. The studio first picked it up back in 2005, and both Jack Black and Zach Galifianakis were set to star at some point, which is a good sign because it means the script was/is clever enough to attract some huge names in the comedy world.

THR’s description of the film sounds promising, especially for an actor like Parsons. I can already picture his character and actions in my head.

“The story tells of a schoolteacher (Parsons) who abruptly discovers he’s got witchlike powers. A coven of real witches takes him in, promptly sending him to “witch school,” where he is the lone adult, surrounded by little girl witches-in-training.”

No other information has been released yet. We’ll keep you posted though.

Batman And Superman Work Together To Crush The Critics, Celebrate With Huge $424 Million Opening Weekend!

batt

Hey, Ben Affleck…cheer up. Critics might have slammed Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it’s obvious most fans didn’t care. Early predictions from the experts had this film bringing home around $120 million in its domestic debut. The most generous estimates had it reaching the $140 million mark.

Well, the numbers are now in and we can report that Batman V Superman opened with a huge $170.1 million total. And while that doesn’t beat the $207.4 million total in the United States by The Avengers, Warner Bros. did beat Marvel in the worldwide battle.

Batman V Superman had the biggest opening weekend ever for a superhero film. It earned $424 million worldwide, easily beating The Avengers’ $392.5 million worldwide total.

Not only is it the best opening for a superhero film, it’s also a studio best for Warner Bros. In addition to those impressive records, it now owns the records for best pre-summer debut and best Easter weekend opening.

This is a huge victory for Warner Bros., Affleck, Zack Snyder, and everyone else who worked their butts off on this movie.

We have to imagine Ben is feeling better now. It hurt our hearts to see him looking so depressed during this interview…

How Much Money Will ‘Batman V Superman’ Make During Its Opening Weekend? Find Out What The Experts Think!

bat

Before entering 2016, most people believed Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice would be the first huge hit of the year at the box office. But then Deadpool happened and people are still trying to gather up pieces of their toasted brains.

Early projections for Deadpool’s opening weekend were sitting between $60 and $70 million, which would have been considered a success by most people. It ended up bringing in over $130 million during its opening weekend.

And Warner Bros. is hoping Dawn of Justice can produce more shocking results. According to the projections from tracking executives and rival studios, this movie is expected to bring home $100-$140 million in its opening weekend. If it can generate even more excitement before its release from positive reviews from critics, then it might follow Deadpool with another record-breaking performance.

The studio is hoping they can take down The Hunger Games‘ March opening weekend record of $152 million. It’s certainly possible, but it’s going to be close. The opening night will be extremely important. If those fans enjoy it and start spreading their good reviews on social media, then watch out!

One more thing that might help Batman V Superman is the fact that it is opening on Easter weekend. Most everyone will be off for Good Friday, which could create a Great Friday for Warner Bros.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016. Tickets will go on sale this Monday at 7 AM PT.
