Well, this is exciting. There are multiple reports flying out of Hollywood, and they’re all saying the same thing. Joss Whedon is nearing a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled Batgirl movie for Warner Bros.
Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reportedly made a lot of progress with the project this month. It’s all happening kinda fast right now, so there hasn’t been a lot of information released.
Batgirl first appeared in DC Comics back in 1967, and even though she’s one of the most popular superheroes, she’s never gotten her own movie. That’s changing now.
Another interesting thing about this move is the fact that Whedon will be leaving the Marvel Universe to work with the DC Extended Universe. As most of you know, Whedon wrote and directed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
In addition to this new Batgirl project, Warner Bros.’ DC Universe is also developing a sequel to Suicide Squad, as well as a spin-off featuring Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn character. You also have ‘The Batman‘ film with Ben Affleck coming up as well.
We’ll keep you posted as more information is released about this Batgirl solo film.
