‘Top Gun: Maverick’ And ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ Have Been Delayed Once Again

Paramount is delaying the release of ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ and ‘Mission: Impossible 7‘ once again, much to the disappointment of Tom Cruise fans around the world.

Top Gun was supposed to hit theaters on November 19, 2021, but it’s now been pushed back to May 27, 2022, which honestly makes more sense. Top Gun just feels more like a summer movie than a Thanksgiving flick.

Meanwhile, the latest Mission: Impossible won’t hit theaters until September 30, 2022. It was supposed to be released in May of 2022. These two films have been delayed several times. The studio knows they could have a huge box office haul for both, so they’re being extra careful with the release.

Thanks to the Delta variant, they now believe the best time for a major release will be in 2022. It’s a huge blow to cinemas, who thought they’d be somewhat back to normal by now.

Additionally, the studio also pushed back the release of Jackass Forever. It was scheduled to be released inside theaters on October 22, 2021, but it’s now been pushed back to February 4, 2022.

The latest release date shuffle, marking the first domino to fall in late 2021, comes as the country’s COVID-19 cases remain stubbornly persistent. That has resulted in a significant decline in consumer confidence in returning to the movies. According to research conducted by NRG, 67% of moviegoers say they are ‘very or somewhat comfortable’ visiting their local theater, which is down 11 points from July.

All we can do at this point is hope this is the last major wave. It’s hard to imagine another surge, because you’d think that most everyone would either be vaccinated or infected.

But at this point, no one knows. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come for the winter box office.

Paramount Makes Big Changes In Release Schedule, Moves Back Top Gun And Mission: Impossible 7

While theaters are opening back up and people have returned in large numbers, some studios are still trying to make sure they maximize their release dates for some of their bigger films.

Some areas of the world are still in the middle of a deadly surge, so Paramount has made the decision to push back Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7.

The Top Gun sequel was supposed to be released during the Fourth of July weekend, but now we have learned it’ll be pushed back to November 19, 2021.

That date is of interest because that’s when the other Tom Cruise film, Mission: Impossible 7, was set to be released.

The release date for that film has been moved to May 27, 2022.

Top Gun: Maverick stands to be a billion-dollar grossing movie and Paramount isn’t going to let one buck of that slip away. Exhibition continues to be closed in Europe (with UK eyeing a May 17 reopening) and Brazil as they continue to grapple with Covid, and it’s going to take time for those markets to get back in shape. A late November date stands a better chance of Europe and Brazil being fully open for Top Gun: Maverick.

It’s all about the money, and they can afford to wait a few months. If they rush it, and miss out on millions of dollars, that’s going to hurt more than pushing it back a few months and making bank at the box office.

It’s a smart move, but also a frustrating one for fans of Tom Cruise doing cool sh*t on film.

Val Kilmer Claims He Didn’t Want To Be In The Original ‘Top Gun’ But Begged To Be In Upcoming Sequel

The 1986 action flick ‘Top Gun‘ is a legit classic. The movie still holds up today. Tom Cruise stars in the movie as Maverick, and Val Kilmer landed the supporting ‘Iceman’ role.

The chemistry (tension/rivalry ) between them was outstanding. It’s one of the better parts of the film.

But believe it or not, Kilmer didn’t even want the part. In his new memoir, I’m Your Huckleberry, the now 60-year-old actor claims his agent begged him to audition.

I didn’t want the part. I didn’t care about the film. The story didn’t interest me. I read the lines indifferently and yet, amazingly, I was told I had the part. I felt more deflated than inflated. I had to get out of there.

Obviously it turned out to be a great decision. Hopefully he treated his agent to a nice dinner.

As you all know, a sequel to the film (Top Gun: Maverick) is scheduled to hit theaters this Christmas, and yes…Kilmer will be in it.

But only because he begged!

As the Temptations sang, ‘Ain’t too proud to beg.’ I’d not only contact the producers but create heartrending scenes with Iceman. Forget the fact that 30 years had passed … I remembered it like it was yesterday.

The producers went for it. Cruise went for it. Cruise couldn’t have been cooler. And the next thing I knew I was back. Tom and I took up where we left off. As far as the film’s plot goes, I’m sworn to secrecy.

In his memoir, he also talked about Cruise’s insane work ethic.

From day one he was laser-focused on a singular goal: to become the greatest action hero in the history of film. He was up nights learning lines, he spent every waking hour perfecting his stunts. His dedication was admirable.

Another One Bites The Dust, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Has Its Release Date Pushed Back

You’ve waited over 30 years for a ‘Top Gun’ sequel, so what’s another few months?

It was announced this week that ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ will be pulling out of its June 24th release date. Instead, it will now be released on December 23, 2020.

As part of the release shake-up, Paramount has also moved ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ — which the studio postponed last month — to Sept. 4, 2020

Several other films have pushed back their release date to the fall/winter, which is going to cause a traffic jam at the theaters. I mean, how are we going to watch all these films? And who is going to have the money?

I feel like a lot of these studios are being optimistic. I mean, what if a second wave comes in the winter and they have to shut down temporarily again? It’s a very confusing moment right now for everyone.

I do miss the movies. I know that much. It was basically the only thing I did before all this. But at the same time, I’m not going to risk getting coronavirus just so I can see Tom Cruise pretend to fly a plane.

But hopefully we won’t have to make that decision. Hopefully the world is in a much better place come December.

Check Out Tom Cruise In The First Full Trailer For ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Tom Cruise might be pushing 60-years-old, but thanks to the magical forces of the organization that shall not be named, he still looks like he’s 35-years-old.

In 1986, Cruise starred in the action-flick ‘Top Gun‘ and now in 2020, he’s starring in its sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

The sequel to the 1986 flick follows Cruise’s Maverick as he tackles the role of test pilot instructor to a new generation of recruits.

The first full trailer was released today, and I must admit, it looks like a lot of fun. Of course, I’m a bit biased. I loved the first film and have probably watched it at least a dozen times.

Val Kilmer is returning alongside Cruise for this sequel. Miles Teller, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Connelly are also set to star.

Top Gun: Maverick is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2020.

The ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Trailer Has Dropped And EVERYONE Is Talking About It

Tom Cruise shocked the world yesterday when he showed up unannounced at Comic-Con in San Diego

“I felt it was my responsibility to deliver for you,” Cruise told the stunned audience.

The trailer for ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ is closing in on 10 million views and is #1 on trending. Everyone is talking about this thing, and for good reason, the trailer is f**king dope.

This sequel was originally set to hit theaters this year, but it was pushed back until June 26, 2020.

In the film, Maverick will team up with Goose’s son, played by Miles Teller. Miles is perfect for this movie, by the way. Everyone in the ‘Top Gun’ franchise needs a certain smugness about them, and Miles certainly has that.

In addition to Cruise and Teller, this sequel will also feature the return of Val Kilmer as Iceman.

Check out the ridiculous trailer below…
