‘Jumanji’ Has Been Out For Five Weeks, And It’s Still At The Top Of The Box Office

I will be the first one to admit it, I was a ‘Jumanji‘ hater when news of the reboot was first announced. I rolled my eyes and thought, “Really? They’re going to ruin Jumanji now?”

But it looks like I was wrong. The movie, which has a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has received some pretty great reviews from critics. And most important, the audience at home loves it. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has been out for five weeks, and it just won the weekend box office for the third week in a row.

It’s currently performing better than the latest Star Wars film, and it came out a week before it. That’s pretty freaking incredible. In total, Jumanji has earned over $750 million at the worldwide box office. No one expected that, and if you haven’t watched the move yet, you might be confused by its success.

But as Miles Surrey explains in his article on The Ringer, it will make sense the moment you watch the movie…

“It’s not giving you anything you haven’t seen before in a tentpole blockbuster, but the principal cast — Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan — has superb chemistry, the humor is surprisingly fresh, it has a frenetic pace, and the entire thing leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from the movie’s very earnest heart.

What I’m saying is, the Jumanji sequel dominating the box office is a surprise only if you haven’t seen Jumanji. Once you see this movie, it makes total sense.”

So if you’re one of the few people in the world who haven’t watched this movie, go check it out this week. You won’t regret it.
